Hello, I am new to online forums and just found my mom’s 72 Gran Torino station wagon in a barn where it’s been sitting since 1981. I am pulling it out tomorrow (with my 81 year old dad supervising). Just wanted to meet y’all and have a group to share this restoration with.

Glad to be here. Dad sold the car and delivered it in 81. The new owner never moved it after dad dropped it off. I will share some pictures when I figure out how to post them. Only original part missing is the RF fender. It was removed after an accident in 1980.

Here is the story…It was our family car from my childhood. My dad, who happened to be a mechanic and had raced cars (track and some street) before he married mom, kept it in top notch shape. One day in early 1980, mom was driving through a parking lot with my sister and I riding in the front seat. A teenager in a 57 Chevy hit us in the right front fender. Dad started repairing the damage from the accident and was ready to put the front clip back on the 72 when a family friend offered to buy it. Dad sold it to him and drove it to his barn and parked it. Mom has had some health issues lately and I was talking to dad about mom and the old 72, his eyes lit up when I told him that I was going to find mom’s old Gran Torino. I asked him to help me get it back. He made a phone call and his friend told him I could have it and he still had the title dad gave him. It was in the same spot where dad parked it 46 years ago. The glove box still had dad’s maintenance records, tag receipts, insurance cards, invoice from Carey Paul Ford from 1972, as well as other cool paperwork with mom and dad’s signatures. When I can post some photos, I will share them. I have family photos from the 70’s and a few from the barn this week.
