I'm lookin for a gas tank for the ranchero and I know where a 76 ranchero is in a junk yard and was wondering if that 76 would fit my 72? Maybe Dan could help me?

It will fit and I have one off that '74 Ranchero I scrapped. Dang, wish I had known while you were here. It is clean and solid, too.

So do you still have it or was it scrapped with the car?

Sure. I have no need for it. $50 and it is yours. Sending unit, filler neck, etc included.

I changed my 72 tank to a 74+ style, the original straps would've probably worked with longer carriage bolts and a little massaging to fit the bends to the new tank shape. 72 breather is 'lock ring' style while 74+ uses a rubber grommet
plan on a new filler breather hose, vent hose, maybe the filler rubber section & filler grommet if it's dry

as these guys' have said you can use the 74-79 tanks in your 72-73 rancheros. The part # for the filler grommet is (E1AZ9072B) and the vent grommet is ( D4AZ9B076A) Take care Dan

I am not sure about shipping it. Could wash it out with Purple Power to get the gas smell reduced. Anyone know?

perhaps an "old timey" radiator shop could "boil" it out. I use one such shop around here, they don't like to do it anymore, but still do if i ask them.
