Ok in a couple days I'm sending stuff to get blasted should I blast the rear end? If so apart or together, I want to repaint it and it would be faster to send it off with all of the other stuff.

I'd blast it together, then pull the axles and install new bearing and seals. if your changing the center section, then i'd tell them not to get crazy with that and if your not I'd change the pinion seal after blasting.

Tighten it down until it snaps and then back it off a half turn!

Totally agree ^^^^. That blasting media has a habit of getting into nooks and crannies that you just wouldn't believe, plus it's the kiss of death to bearings and seals. Maybe a better option would be to clean it yourself. If you use a good degreaser and then pressure wash it, at least you can control to what extent of cleanliness and/or damage that can be avoided. Just a thought. Todd

yeah, if you had it blasted you could wrap the seal areas with about 10 layers of duct tape to protect the seals then just clean those areas yourself, o wire wheel the rear end and prime and paint, if it's real rusty treat the rust with like rust mort then prime and paint

Or wire brush, degrease, Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, topcoat with Rustoleum.
I did that to my axle and driveshaft 9 years ago and it still looks good and it lives outside and gets driven a lot. No damage to the seals, no grit in surprising places, and cheap, easy to touch up.

I did mine this year.  Sandblasted it together, then disassembled.  I had the housing powdercoated and painted the chunk myself.   They still got sand inside, and it took a LONG time to get it spotless again.  I put in new seals and bearings.  Wire wheeling and pressure washing won't do nearly the same job.

Thanks for all of your input guys. I think I'll get it all blasted together, I plan on buying a rear disc kit so should I take the brakes off? I want to replace everything in the rear end like the seals and bearings (I want to make it like new), I've never done this before and I need to know what I need, maybe post a link to a kit or parts? And thank again I'd advance, by the way both of those rear ends look great!

Just a thought - what about having it dipped (if there is a place nearby). No sand residue, thoroughly cleans everything in and out, and quick.

How much do you think that would cost? The nearest one is probably a couple towns over.

The prices vary widely, but I would think it would be on par with blasting and the associated media. Need to factor your debris removal/cleanup time in there when comparing.

Yeah that does sound a lot better, but I'd better send it off with all of the other stuff, or it'll probably sit around for another month waiting to be able to pay for dipping. Lol
