Guys need some feedback
So my 1975 Gran Torino is having a small issue - We just installed a Brand New out of the Crate Motor have about 1800 Miles on it - Was running perfect for about 2 months - all of a sudden i am getting a slight hesitation when i hit the gas pedal - and it appears my front window fogs up too now. Never did this before. Vacuum Leak? I am not smelling antifreeze so i am ruling out the core for the moment. Here is a break down of what happens 1. Driving normal conditions i come to a light the car runs really ruff almost like it wants to stall out but does not quite get to that point 2. Starts up and warms up perfectly 3. Noticed after it gets hot and i pump the pedal a bit it hesitates a bit 4. I turned up the timing to compensate didn't help much but holds an idle better 5 noticed now when i do hard acceleration my front window fogs up Could this be a vacuum leak - and if so where do you think i should start looking? Thanks in advance for the input |

strange! sounds like a vacuum leak ,maybe but the window? i was wondering how you made out with the carb thing a while back. does it fog on the inside of the window or on the outside? i have seen a/c vehicles sometime fog the window due to a/c condensation in the box??? is yours a/c? and working???

do you have the vacuum reservoir can hooked into the climate control system?
under hard accel you could be losing vac to the climate controls and funny things are happening with your air doors inside the plenums could be a cracked / split vacuum hose too, or even a fitting might explain the hesitation at the same time

window fogging is key clue to a leaking heater core. The loss of vacuum during acceleration (as Rockatansky has mentioned) will cause the heat/ac system to lose vacuum and doors will move to unmodulated positions. I think defrost is one of the default positions.
From my experience with my new 521 install and everything else (heat/ac system being reinstalled and "rebuilt"), I have noted two things: 1. I need a vacuum reservoir, to ensure the heat/ac system is getting adequate vacuum control during all phases of driving. 2. I have leaks in that system. I am unsure if I have a leaky hose, I doubt I do. However, I suspect one or more vacuum modulators are leaky. Possibly multiple modulators that are all a little leaky. This will take some troubleshooting to narrow down. My engine, once I hooked up the vacuum to the heat/ac system, did seem to idle a little rougher. Not having had time to troubleshoot more, I don't have detailed data to share (like drop in vacuum with heat system engaged), etc. but I will get to the bottom of it. Winter is coming… Not just a quote from Game of Thrones. I am seriously concerned about having proper heat and defrost here in a month. Very important stuff!

try duplicating the condition with the blower on High so you can tell what the air doors are doing behind the dash
it doesn't take much of a heater core leak to show up on the windshield, you wouldn't notice coolant loss for a long time could also be moisture / drain condensation trapped in the plenum during a vacuum loss and the moisture shows up on the front window? check the evaporator plenum drain...

Bypass the heater core. Fogging stops, bad core.
Is the carb loading up at lights? Does it clear out when you rev it up? The HVAC system will default to either defrost or floor when there is a vacuum issue. |

My elite I drove, the one my parents ordered new in '76, when i got it, had a leaky core. Minor pinhole leak fogged up the glass when the car was hot.
I'd tend to agree with Joe. Bypass/unhook the heater core hoses and check.
