I need to replace the speedo cable . I found some Original ford OEM ones . My question is was there different lengths on 72 . I found a couple of these for sale Cable D2OZ-17260-B it fits options with 3-speed manual transmission, C4 automatic or FMX Cruise-o-matic .
I have a 4spd what would be the Difference on 3 spd ? Shouldnt it hook up on the same side off gear box ? Why wouldnt it work ?

CHUCK,
Not sure where the three speed goes in, I'd assume passenger side. the C6 cable is about 72" long, it may work but i "think" its a longer cable because it goes across the firewall, above the bellhousing and then down and under. I remember when I pulled mine thinking "thats a LONG sumbitch!". Lol.

D2OZ-17260-D is the correct part number for 4spd and c6 applications. I'm in the hunt for another one myself .... bent mine when I broke the output shaft the other day.

No, I broke the transmission 28 spline output shaft. Power shifted second, she hooked up real good and snapped the output shaft in two places in the tailshaft housing, right behind the rear case bearing and right in front of the output shaft splines for the drive shaft yoke. when it broke it busted both plastic speedo gears and bent the metal part of the speedo cable housing. Should be back on the road by this weekend.I upgraded to a 31 spline output shaft and drive shaft slip yoke. Had to machine the rear tail housing to accept the bigger yoke, I ordered a new NOS speedo cable from Miller Obsolete ford parts Binghamton NY $46 plus shipping. It was the first time I really got on it too. I real should grow up....Nawh!
