What the heck kind of paint code is this? And why can't I find it listed? Surely one of the Gurus on here has a full factory paint code chart.

This the original paint on Copperhead before the upgrade to PPG Copperhead met.

Before I ever touched it in a different light.

5J is Ginger Glow in 1974 (according to some sources) which is a Drk Brown color (kinda Root beer colored)  and the same color in 1975 is called Dk Ginger Met.  5T is a closer color, in 1975 is shows to be Saddle Bronze Met, which is a closer match, but I really don't think the top is faded to where you couldn't see any signs of the top of the "T" at all, and then there is still the "underscore" what is that all about?

Here is a blown up picture of the label. the top of the T could be completely gone, or maybe it just slipped down the label and now looks like an underscore LOL

Okay, I knew it was on here somewhere, I looked and looked last night. I noticed the link was to a 74 model, mine was built in 74, but was sold as an early 75. I wonder if the codes are the same? I still can't find that page without your link.

I was thinking the same thing, but I went with the manufacturer date on the tag so I believe it to be correct. I had to Google "1974 Ford Gran Torino 51 paint code" and it took me to the GTS site... :)

It's 5T. That's not a 1. Look at the other "1"s on the sticker.

So if I'm looking at this correctly, for it to be a "GLOW" paint option in 1974, it would have to have an * after the 5J for it to be "Ginger Glow" otherwise it is Dk Ginger Met. Correct?

Remember we're talking 1972 technology. Probably a typewriter type printer. Easy to get blurred or incorrect letters and numbers.

True, would have loved to had seen the label on unlovedford's 75 GTS he scrapped out. I got the passengers fender off it and it was an exact match.

Yep....considering the entire top of the T is missing, I bet you that stamp was probably bent. So you lost the top of the T, and caught the bottom edge of the stamp plate.

This link/site has been very helpful for me in the past with not only paint colors, but also interior colors/sheens as well as vinyl top colors. Probably too late to join in, but hope this helps.

It's more of a curiosity thing for me and a Marti report is not worth the money on a car like mine. I already know I don't have anything special LOL  Plus I know of at least one of those reports that the paint color description is wrong.

Color code will be on the buck tag.....and also should be on the build sheet that's usually stuffed in the rear seat springs.

Yes....buck tag contains all the build info for the assembly workers so they know how that particular car should be built.

Okay, no metal tag under the hood and I've already restored the car, interior and all, and unfortunately someone beat me to all the build sheets. I've been behind every door panel, under all the floorboards insulation pads and rear seat hiding places. Nothing :( its okay, i think we are pretty sure it's a 5T. Would have been cool to have found the metal tag since I knew all the paper build sheets were gone.
