    Posted: 24-March-2019 at 5:33PM
I am looking to get longer wheel studs as well as wheel nuts with shanks to fit the correct slotted mags for my Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino. The pic below shows the stock wheel studs after I mounted one of these wheels on the car. They are too short and the wheel nuts do not fit on safely.

I am looking to get parts from Dorman, unless anyone else has other recommendations. Anyone ever gotten these parts for their S&H? Please let me know brand and part numbers (specify front and rear) for the longer studs and wheel nuts w/ shanks to fit.

Thanks!
Mike

yes, fully understand what I have in the pic will not work. they are stock studs and nuts.

do I need the nuts with the washers as shown in the link? also the shanks on those nuts look rather short. Do I need the longer ones? I am ok with getting longer shanks, even if it takes longer to screw on :)

you actually let the jack down and tire on the ground like that?

stock length wheel studs and the correct lug nuts for the wheels should be fine, i don't think you need to longer?

1/2"-20 and shank length closest to w/o going over the thickness of the wheel at the hub,

ebay, Summit, Jeg's, Pep Boys, closest parts store you can walk, jog, skateboard to etc Go Beto!

yes you need the washers they go on the nut then the nut/washer assembly goes though the wheel Wink 3/4 should be fine, i'll check a standard mag nut and let you know the shank length ....

Thanks Johnny. According to what I saw online, it seemed like the Cragar rims needed the washers and the mags did not. Yes please let me know the shank length, thanks!

there are several variations on mag nuts, but with those wheels pictured they need the thin washers!
yes standard mag nuts are 3/4" shank just measured one Wink and you'll need RH 1/2 -20 threads

some cragers you could be seeing are the super long SST style and they have a super wide washer, i have ET's on my car and they take a unique nut with inset washers the nuts have a short shank with a beveled acorn type seat half way up the shank. i thought they would be difficult to find new but i got them from the lug nut guys Big smile

you need to measure how thick the wheel is where the lugs goes through, consider all wheels to be possibly different! lugs come in many shank lengths for a reason. factor in 1/8" for the washer and select the shank length that is shorter than your measurement. internet parts selection is hit  / miss at best

Do not move the car with the nuts you have on. absolutely guaranteed to ruin the wheels and possibly break off. Get decent shank nuts. McGard or something high quality.
you need the correct shank depth for your wheels and the correct washers.
longer studs are probably not necessary.
