Hi all,
The driver's side rear bumper isolator (Part No. 17C884-5) has rusted apart, and as a result my bumper is sagging to one side. My solution for the other side when it broke was to attach the bumper to the frame by using a few pieces of angle iron welded on, and obviously that's far from ideal. I've heard this is a fairly common issue on Fords of this vintage, so I was wondering if anyone here has had similar issues, and if so how they fixed it. For now I'll be using a ratchet strap to hold it up since I no longer have access to a welder. Here is a diagram for reference. The rusted part on the isolator is the bit that looks like an I-beam. |

I would have to assume so, as long as they're for 74 and up (seems to be the first year of 5mph bumpers for front and back).

If those are rotten, usually the inner bumper core is shot as well.
Crown Vic ones do not fit... Sadly..

The 77-79 Ranchero bumper supports/brackets are different from the ones in the illustrations. Basically bolt to the side of rear frame rails, at least the ones I have seen or dealt with. Can take pics(If I can get to bumper-so much "stuff" in warehouse) but probably irrelevant.

Hey, sorry for reopening this thread after such a long time. I am currently looking for the rear bumper isolators for my 79 Thunderbird. Do you still have those parts cars and would you be willing to ship to Germany? |
