Hey everyone!
I have a new fuel tank and want to protect it somewhat. It is a galvanized Spectra F4B. So can I paint this thing? Box liner? Undercoat, leave it alone? What kind of prep does this galvanized stuff need? Because I am not a paint guy, please lead me along with that in mind. You know, small words, type slow... Thanks! Ron

depends on what you want...? originally they were just galvanized. some probably got dealer applied undercoat on them along with the car. i have painted or galvanized metal by sanding with 80 grit to rough it then a couple coats of self etching epoxy primer then paint. i've heard of guys etching galvanized metal with vinegar???

Thanks Johnny, the standard galvanized finish doesn't bother me, I could just leave it alone. Just thought if I was going to do anything, when it was new and clean would be the optimal time. I'll think some more on it.

I have a new tank for mine as well and plan on leaving it "natural" shiney galvanized metal. My plan is to wipe it down with lacquer thinner to remove the oils and then shoot it with clear polyurethane to protect the natural shine.
Will this work as I invision??
