I haven't looked in the cylinders yet but this engine would have to be disassembled for me to even think about a swap.

Headers, factory head bolts, painted ugly purple blue, it's been worked on. Does that say 1968 heads, C8VE? That could tell you something, but likely not enough to say it's worth $1000 versus $200.

That motor has seen the elements for sure. Is that yours or looking to get? I'm sure its nothing a bore and stroker kit can't fix!

Remember, any older 460 or 429 can be bored .080" without sonic checking it. With sonic checking, they may be capable of as much as .160" over bored. So you can add 16-32 cubic inches with bigger pistons. I'd rather have a stroked 351W though, 408-427 is common, but the stroker kits are near $2000.

The C8VE-E heads were used on either 429 or 460 according to various websites. Just the early version of the DOVE casting. If I am going to play around with another engine, the 351 I have would make more sense. I can pick up a cj top end for $50. Iron intake comes with the heads.
The 460 would be nice but I don't see value in this one. I will run the bore scope into it next time I am at the garage through the carb and/or pull some spark plugs to have a look. It might be worth buying if it were a few hundred probably. The valve covers don't appeal to me but ither folks look for them. He probably pulled this one in the 90s and it has been sitting in the old trailer at his last business or on the floor in this garage forever.

Do you mean 4V CJ heads for $50? Buy those 4V heads if you can, they sell for $500 and up on eBay. I've looked at building 4V heads, the only thing I'm not sure of is what the current cost is to machine the pedestals for 7/16" roller rockers. I can see nearly $1000 in cost to go through 4V heads, not counting doing roller rockers. On the cheap side the stock rockers can be replaced and carefully clearance the replacements, that could save maybe $600.

The cj heads are open chamber that were on a Gran Torino that was totalled I believe. He has one set of 4V, one set of 2V, and two iron 4V intakes. I picked up a nice package of 72 parts the other day for short money. I thought my friend bought the heads and when we unloaded the block and topliafer I said he forgot the heads. Said he didn't want them so I got in touch with the guy who sold the parts. I am not sure what I should offer but under $100 for all is probably all he wants.

I would say go get them. The OC heads can be cut as much as .060" from what I read recently, it may have been a George Pence post. So the compression you want can be attained, and supposedly both heads are equivalent at the same compression with flat top pistons. So I may use my OC heads for an engine build, and sell my CC heads because people want them more.
