I purchased a project car month or so ago.  '69 Cobra R code SCJ Sports Roof with a C6 and W code 4.30 rear end.  Presently is has 3.25 Trac-Lok gears and no sign of the original 4.30's.  I can't help but want to take it back to the 4.30's it came with even though the 3.25's would be great for cruising.  My cruising area is 10 miles or less really and quite honestly I would rather have have my neck snapped back from a takeoff than rolling 140 mph down the road.  I could care less about mpg either.  Sounds like I'm decided, but talk me down from the ledge!! LOL

How about the exhaust tone? Higher rpms could mean more drone and that might take away from your enjoyment. But honestly,  I love deeper gears and quicker 0-54 mph so I'm not the guy to talk you out of it!

The exhaust note I think will be good.  Have a '69 mustang with a built 351w, 3.73's in that.  At about 2200 rpm I can't stand it with the drone, so higher rpms for me usually.

It is a 9", 31 spline.  If I'm liking the 4.30's IF I go that way, it's possible!!

Looks like the math with original tires (diameter-wise anyways) it would be turning 3300 rpm at 60 mph.  LOL, I sooooo want to punch it at 60!!  Versus 2500 rpm with the 3.25's.  I run, as stated above, 3.73's in my Mustang and like that gear, BUT the Cobra came with 4.30 gears......That's my issue as it was spec'd insane and I would like to experience that insane.....in the car sense anyways!

Wow, that car would rip, would have quite a bit of torque at the ready at cruising speed. It would likely make a difference in tire wear.

How about adding an OD and then install the 4.30's? Gear Vendors has their famous over drive which is simple to install behind most transmissions and TC's. If it was a small block, I'd say build a 4R70W and a controller for it, but that would be more money than the separate OD unit.

3.25 is a good all around gear not too high not too lowWink
i knew a guy that had a 69 mach 1 with 4.56"s in it great take off but in 4th it topped out at like 100Confused is was set up to drag though...
my suggestion: get another 3rd member case and set it up with the 4.30's keep your 3.25's in that case then you could just swap 3rd members if you change your mindWink

That may be great advice actually.  I wouldn't get rid of the 3.25's until i was sure the 4.30's were right for me.
