If that is your timing chain cover, and it looks like it is, then yes, yhat seal is imporrant. It's your crank seal.

I've got to get on to swapping mine out soon.

I don't think my Cleveland engines had any gasket material there around the rear crank seal area. It would be just to reduce dust etc, from reaching the rear main seal which would be bad for it. So it's not a bad idea to put a foam gasket there if it's made for that heat. There shouldn't be much air circulation back there to move any dirty air into the rear seal area.

It is not the timing chain cover. It is at the rear of engine….bell housing plate……rear engine plate…..whats the correct term?? No worries.
Is such a dust boot/gasket readily available somewhere?
The gasket on the plate is very brittle…it disintegrates to any touching.

It is not critical at all, generally no Ford pushrod engines have that in any later years. Don't spend much time or money on it, either replace it with whatever you might find that can take 250* of heat, or forget it completely.
