Has any one used the lokar throttle cable? Looking for thoughts/examples of how you modified the throttle pedal to accept the clevis end

Why not just use an OEM unit?

I get to play with this fun toy when I put an AOD in my car. I hope some of us have done this so an answer comes up. I know that Holley carburetors say they won't work on Ford automatics when I look for carb options at say, Summit. So I always wondered how do they make it work?

I guess it would be easier to grab an AOD cable off an 80s Panther...

Someone on 460ford.com did an AOD with a Holley, I'll try to see what he did.

The factory throttle cable should be fine. If using an aftermarket carb you would need the lokar kick down cable. Oh, and a hydraulic pressure guage to adjust the cable. I had a lot of fun fabricating since I kept the cable actuated column shifter too.

I have one of these I am putting in this week. Havn't really thought about it much so far though. I think a small round lead fishing weight just before the clevis end would work.

Yes, but the hole is just a tad short of pulling the throttle valve cable out all the way at full throttle (proper function). So you'll have to run a tad more throttle valve pressure/position at idle to compensate for full throttle pressure/position...which is actually safer anyway (a tad more TV pressure is much better than not enough). The bottom throttle linkage hole (arm length) on a Holley carburetor is closer to 'proper linkage geometry' (for AOD TV cable) than any other carburetor I've seen (because the hole swings the longest arc).

My 'chero has that cable. I looked at how it was attached to the pedal. I'm not too thrilled at how it was done. If I use it, and that's a big if, I would have to redo that.

I picked up one of these for cheap so I want to give it a try. I already have the lokar kickdown, so it just makes sense to use the complete package. Plus its good quality stuff

I tried using the factoyr throttle cable on my 351 to  460 swap years ago,It wouldn fit a stealth manifold no matter how I tried. I ordered a Lokar kit and have been running it for the last 5 years. Works for me.

Either way I would need a throttle bracket to bolt to the manifold, so I took off the Lokar and replaced it with a factory cable. I like the integrated spring, and it connects to the pedal no problem.

Did you try hard enough? I had mine with a 460 on a Stealth with a Holley. Cable was bent like an S but it worked... That's what I have in my gray Cougar now, as well. Confused

My cable was for a 351 and was too short.  Maybe a 429 cable is longer, I guess I didnt try too hard

351 here as well. Idk, I remember doing my engine swap years ago and that Lokar cable scared me.

Been so long I don't recall how I hooked it up to the pedal. If I was at the House I would take a look .  I think I will need to replace it soon though. The angle was not quite right at the Bracket so the cable wore a grove in the adjuster sleeve.  I drove for a year on the street ,Probably would never have worn that bad in a drag car. If you install one of these you need to make sure that the cable runs straight from your adjustment sleeve to the throttle linkage . My sleeve was slightly tilted allowing the cable to rub against the ID of it.
