A quick question, and, yes, I did a search, but now my head is spinning. Is it possible to have a 72 GTS, 460, C6 with AOD? I looked at the web site for PATC, and all it did was make me woozy. I know anything is possible, but has anyone done something like that?

As far as I know...the AOD transmission started in the 80s so no 72 with C6 AOD as stock....and by the way the AOD ist another transmission and not a C6 version?
But I'm not sure about that....

So ure thinking about replacing the C6 with AOD? No idea why u should....

I was thinking about the highway, but I think that the more I think about it I dont do much driving with this car on the highway or in town. So I think I was fantasizing. But what the fantasy was, well, I am not that deep when it comes to the guts of a car and what can or should be done, but I saw where an od unit can be added to the ass end of the c6, shorten the drive shaft and a couple of other mods (totally over simplifying things here for brevity) and you have a car that goes good on the high way.

But as I said, when I really think about it, I wont but drive 3-4k a year, if that. So...

Ha! I am ordering a trans from PATC within the next month or so. I was contemplating on adding the Gear Vendors overdrive unit, but I am not sure whether I can justify the $2800 price tag. It would take a lot of driving to make up for the price in gas...

I think for strength and longevity, I'd go with a GV. Cost would be about the same if you already have A C6 you are happy with.

You also need the adapter kit to bolt the AOD on a big block, AOD bellhousing bolts directly on smallblock only.

Alternatively, if you locate an E4OD with the 460 bolt pattern, it is essentially a C6 with overdrive..  required a standalone controller, but total cost involved could still be less than GV..

What about late model EFI 460 trucks and econoline vans? I thought there was a heavy duty computer controlled 4 speed AOD stuck behind them, as I know of a guy that got his father-in-law's econoline that was a 460 van, with an AOD behind the engine.

I'm stuck in the same situation with my 4 speed.
Love the top loader, but want overdrive. GV unit, or a TKO600?
Personally, in my gas, I almost lean towards a TKO and call it a day.

If I was running the C6...I'd look at the GV route.

i think i'm sticking with the C6 behind my 429 as if the car needs to travel any long distance I have a car trailer and would be cheaper to tow it then drive it with all the performance mods I want to do it will be fast but pass everything but gas stations so doubt it will see much long distance highway use.

I also thought the 460's in motorhomes had overdrive trans. My friend has had 2 C class with the Ford van fronts and 460 engines and believe atleast the newer one had overdrive
