The interior trim code for my 78 LTDII is HB (blue). I'm trying to find what specific vinyl dye and interior paint this actually is. Ford lists actual names for their colors and I don't know which blue associates to the 'blue' for HB.
I'm sure it's a color used in an early 70's Mustang, but there are several blues listed for them as well and without seeing the color of each blue, it's hard to go by just a name.

That's a great question and most of us need similar help. My 72 and 73 blue interiors look the same, but I'll have to repaint the door panels I'm sure before I'm done. I spent a lot of time in junkyards back in the late 70's and early 80's. I didn't notice a big change in the interior colors then versus the earlier years, but the blue I paid attention to because my 72 Gran Torino had it. The late 70's Fords seemed to have compatible blue parts I might have wanted to use. I saw a couple of really nice Cougars and Thunderbirds that I thought of buying the interiors from. But I didn't have any space to store extra parts, and my car was in very good shape at the time.

See if you can find an automotive paint store to get the needed paint/dye to color your interior, many times (if not all) the 70's intermediates had a bit of metallic within the interior hard plastic and vinyl materials. I had my local automotive paint store custom mix SEM products my interior color with the needed metallic finish and installed in in an easy to use aerosol can. Here is a good resource for interior and exterior paint codes, as well as sheen type for interior paint/dye.
Hope this helps

Very nice, good sources. BTW, I also saw a 72 Ranchero or GT on eBay recently that had a dash which appeared to be covered in leather. It was a rough or basket case listing, it didn't mention the dash at all in the description. It was a color like brown or tan IIRC, I browsed a lot of parts and listings that day last week. The dash covering had seams in the leather which looked proper, really nice. If it was some wild aftermarket dash cover, I'd be somewhat interested. If it was actually leather, wow I'd want to know how much it was, and how to buy it.

I was able to find the actual color and color code on this site, which is the most complete one I've found yet. It is the "H3B" medium blue. I don't know why it's yet another color from that which is listed on the 2nd tab of the link posted earlier for my application (78 Ford). But the link below is a metallic.

Acting on my original hunch, I can confirm the metallic medium blue for 71-73 Mustangs that NPD mixes for them is an exact match.
National Parts Depot # AP-15436 The Ford color number is different for the two blues, but the name is the same (metallic medium blue). And when I compared the two color chips, they're the same damn color chip. This is the 16049 color chip (it also shows it on the NPD page: And this is the HB3/HB4 Ford 9941 color chip: Same thing. I sprayed some of the paint on the unfaded back of one of my bucket seat backs and you couldn't tell where I had painted, it was pretty dead on. There should be a place where we can archive this kind of information for future people as I'm guessing this same blue is for all interiors that are medium blue.

I made the post a sticky and renamed it to make it easy to find in the future.
We do have the tech section for reference material. If we can come up with a bunch of the correct matches to other interior codes I can make a new post if the reference section.

Based on this experience, I'm pretty confident the other interior colors used for the Mustangs are also going to be the same colors used for our cars. It wouldn't make much sense for Ford to have different colors just for different cars, especially when they're moving through the same factory and going through the same color banks. So the technical resource offering would be this:
