Hi everyone.  New member here.  As you might guess by my handle I don't have a Torino, however I've lurked here for a long time and picked up much valuable info to help me with my 72 T-Bird.  I thought it would be a good idea to join up so I can share as well.

Fortunately the Torinos and Tbirds seem to share a lot of mechanical parts and since the 70's big Birds do not get a lot of love from collectors, I find there is a lot to learn and share here, even just regarding general Ford knowledge.  As soon as I am allowed to I will contribute my recent experiences "restoring" the 72 Tbird.

I'm a desktop user only so don't be insulted if I fail to respond quickly to any comments.

Cheers,
James

Welcome and yes, your Thunderbird is an obese Torino. Structurally the same, just stretched and loaded.

Well, Ford needed a new Chassis for the T-bird/Mark IV. Fullsize Fords were a year away from a complete redesign into an immensity with it's own gravitational field. It was going to be a hard sell creating a "Personal Luxury Car" based on a vehicle only slightly smaller than the Titanic. So the engineers huddled up. The Eggheads and the Bean-Counters agreed that they would hit the parts-bin for the redesign. Fortunately, the Pinto was already being reworked into a "Mustang" of sorts. The Fox-chassis was a few years away, so the Torino was selected.

OOH! Just noticed that you have a slicktop with Manual windows!!! No C-pillar opera windows either?
Some were actually made with the 400-2v engine in 72.

Yes I have a stripper!  No opera windows either but fortunately the 429 and "leather" interior.  I'm fortunate it has few options so there is less to fix.  Some point soon I will write up a short history of my time with the car and post a few pics.

Cheers,
James
