Vince,
About a week ago Advance Auto showed the Moog 80090 springs available for $72.49 so I ordered them. The ordered was canceled soo after stating they were out of stock. I checked their site again yesterday and they were still showing available for home delivery. I called and spoke with an agent who assured me that they were out of stock and I just needed to clear my cache and it would show that. I cleared my cache and they still showed available for home delivery. I added a 15% off coupon and went ahead and tried ordering again. 4 hours later I received an email stating my order had shipped and should arrive 8/14. Fingers crossed I will actually receive the Moog 80090 springs at this incredible price of $65.48! Coil Spring Specialties is the only other place I found them in stock and they wanted $200!

Great deal on those for sure. Someone has posted that Moog no longer makes coil springs. So you likely got some of the (very limited) old stock. But thanks for the specs on the Mevotech springs. Going forward, we will probably have to use that brand instead of the Moogs.

I'll chime in here.
Eaton does not manufacture their coil springs. They are sourcing their coil springs from some company down south, I forget the specific company but I spent too much time researching for my own good. Husky coil springs also make coil springs for our cars, but the main issues are Ford made a surreal amount of spring options. The aftermarket took and trimmed that down to a select few. I have the Moog's and been pleased, but I swapped out my rear coils for a set of Mevotech's which were reboxed Moog springs (Mevotech labels were slapped over top of the Moog labels.) At least this was the case when I bought some on sale off RockAuto winter-spring '22. Regardless, There are still some options but when you're in Compton's situation, you are at the mercy of local laws. Myself? If I was in the mood to really do something, I would modify the lower front control arms with some plate steel, fully box, and then get cups from Southwest Speed and run Super stock springs. They are either 5" or 5.5" ID springs and they start at 700# rating. For a street car, you really don't want to go overboard...but personal experience with a buddy in California many moons ago modified a '74 Mercury Montego MX coupe with some stock car/dirt track suspension parts and his son used to take that Montego out and blast some canyons with it. Having 10" wide wheels and 295 series rubber on all four corners also didn't hurt either with an 800+ HP sprint car engine pushing that thing made it a riot to drive. Surprised more than a few euro guys lol But not surprising as this same guy was the drivetrain builder and crew chief for the the Mr. Guts Gumball 3000 rally 1972 GTS. Man. That feels like an eon and forever ago thinking about THAT GTS and the crazy stuff they did to it. |
