Hey All, thought I would share my recent interior paint experience.
I have been rehabbing the Ginger interior of my 73 Sport roof. Door panels were badly sun bleached, headliner and carpet missing, etc. I initially used SEM product line and love it. I used SEM Cordovan Brown for the dash and it was a perfect match. I then used Camel for the lighter ginger parts and after looking at it with the headliner in, it was too light. So I bought some Dearborn Classic Med Ginger interior paint. I used the SEM prep stuff as before with the DBC as a top coat. Hated it. Color was a better match but the paint went on poorly and did not coat very well. It looked blotchy and I went through a $15 can in no time. Not like the SEM stuff. Which brings me to my point. I have a NPD warehouse nearby (Canton Mi) and I got to thinking - is there a Mustang color that would match, and there is. They sell a SEM custom color called Dark Ginger that I think is an almost direct match to the Med Ginger in a Torino (they sell a Med Ginger also, but its lighter). It went on great (like the other SEM products) and covered MUCH better! For me, its cheaper too - $11/Can and I can drive down and pick it up vs $15 and Glacial ordering. I repainted my door panels and trim pieces. Looks great !! I'll post some before/after pic's but I think for anyone looking to touch up their interior, check this out: http://npdlink.com/store/products/mustang_interior_paint_spray_70_73_dark_ginger-141605-2979.html |

Good info. Be glad you do not have the Med Blue interior. There is no comercially avaliable paint that is even a not so close match.
Went to a local Sherwin Williams automotive store. They did 30 test sprays mixing color, still could not get it right.
Ended up going to a buddy that owns a resto shop. He scanned and found me a color match that is EXACT, I mean perfect. Cost me $130 for a pint (Plus the $100 I spent at sherwin), but I figure its worth it to have the interior color correct, only doing it once.
Spraying it and then spraying it with a urethane clear with flattner gave it the perfect finish.
If anyone is doing as Med blue interior redo I can see if I can get the paint code that he found.
Will post pics in my project thread as soon as I can take pics with the sun out...
