    Posted: 12-September-2009 at 2:19PM
Hey I have a question about my kickdown rod.  351C FMX tranny.  First where can I get the rubber bushings that go at each end?  Second is now that I have the edelbrock installed the rod is too short.  Any tricks on modifying it to make it work?
Thanks a lot

edelbrock carb or intake manifold?  if you are talking carb there is a special adapter you need to get.    the rods can be bent some.  i dont think the end bushings are sold serperate, but maybe you can make something universal work.

I guess that I will just try to bend mine.  I can get it installed,  but it does not have much movement.  Thanks for the help and the pic.

The Lokar kickdown cable is easy to install and the kit I bought for my C6 works great. They have a kit for the FMX. http://www.lokar.com/product-descriptions/polished-hitech-kickdowns.htm

have never needed one of the extensions to make it work on a holley or an edelbrock/carter carb and i've had them hooked to both style carbs.

I cut mine, and clamped in a larger section of hollow pipe.. Once I found the proper length, i welded it. It's not visible at all in the engine bay.

Brendan,

I went to Lowes a bought two rubber grommets that fit in perfectly into the holes.  So far so good and cheap solution too.  Smile

What department were the grommets in.  I hate wandering around looking for stuff like that and half the time if you ask for it they send you on a wild goose chase to find them.
Thanks Brendan

Sorry for bumping an old post...but this picture right here explains 95% of the problem with me not being able to attach the kickdown cable to my Edelbrock carb on this 351C.

When this mechanic attached my Ford throttle linkage to the Edelbrock carb, he put the kickdown part in UPSIDE DOWN so it can't reach, even with the adapter. I have now bent the heck out of the kickdown rod and I'm hoping with this new information that I can UNbend the heck out of the kickdown rod so I can install it properly, and without this $9 adapter I bought. Maybe someone else will need an Edelbrock 8011 adapter and I can PIF it to them now.

Edit: nope, I'm wrong again. Looks like you've got the 1483 adapter on your linkage. That must be what I need to make this work.

i forget the part number for the adapter, but it was like $25 when i bought it.  it makes the throttle cable kinda stick way out and i had to modify the bracket on the intake to compensate. but it worked out.

That's exactly what I think will have to be done. As it is, the bracket on the Edelbrock intake is too far towards the passenger side as installed. I may be able to bend it down towards the drivers side valve cover. Mechanic installed the throttle cable kind of sideways so I need to fix that for clearance as well. It won't quite fit in the slot as is so after bending it ought to fit nice. 351M throttle cable wants to be higher and more towards the drivers side and this should make it happier as well. Last thing I need is for it to bind while I'm going 70 down the road headed towards a small town with tractors crossing the road.

is there enough room to install the linkage ball on the carb to the inside?

otherwise it looks like the bracket needs more distance & another bolt hole

i wonder if you took the cable out would a big Crescent wrench will re-aim the bracket enough?

the whole Edelbrock linkage for Ford is a pretty sad state of affairs

If you have a welder, just tweak the rod and add an inch or two to it.
