I just purchased a 1978 Cougar XR7 with the Midnight/Chamois trim. One owner, 61k miles. Problem is, it has some rusted through front wheel wells. Anyone with a source to replace them? I don't just want a liner, if I can get metal replacements.
Please help! Jeff

Will powder coat survive battery acid etc? I ask because I have a powder coating place that has a huge oven that can do whole cars etc, so a big inner fender is not hard to have done. I had some contamination on my 99's fender apron under where the battery was. But from a rollover I hoped it was the battery flipped, and the truck not sold for over a year in a JY'd. I cleaned it up well and painted it all inside and underneath.

I had my fender liners powder coated and so far they have held up well. Mind you, I don't have a leaky battery and I remove it during storage to ensure that it doesn't leak. An AGM battery would prevent any leakage and further problems.

Thanks. It is nice that these have front end parts that bolt together, to help that kind of care. I coated my radiator support early on when I swapped the 72 front end in 1988. Not having the current access to anything, I chose a bedliner material I found through J.C. Whitney. It worked well then, but I'm not sure how well it has held on. Today POR15 would be a great choice, or powder coating, or things Eastwood sells for frame and chassis stuff. I used their Rust Encapsulator on my 99 frame instead of POR15, both were new 15 years ago and I went with the Eastwood product. I had discovered their Rust Dissolver before that, called first Oxysolv, that is wonderful for rust treatment. It's liquid like water and weeps into seams, but of course it doesn't eat deep thick rust, only outer porous material.
