Replaced the power steering pump and control valve on my 70 Torino and now the steering has a life of its own.  When I start the car the wheel moves violently back and forth once touched. only way to stop it is to turn off the engine. I think I may have gotten a bad control valve but not sure. Any suggestions?

Be sure the air is completely out of the system, that can cause violent issues with the steering.

Yes!  Be careful!
Try raising the front-end off the ground (jack stands) and chock the rear wheels.
Start the car (be sure transmission is in Park), rotate the steering wheel all the way left and then all the way right a few times (or more).
Re-check power steering fluid level. Add if necessary.

Agree with the others.  Bleed it like Greg says and report back. I suspect there is air in the system.
