Yup, 5x4.5. Don't know of any Ford that would have 5x4.75. As far as I know, that's a Chevy bolt pattern.

Ford small - 5 X 4.5 (5 X 114.3) Same as lots of imports. Ford large - 5 X 5.5 (5 X 139.7) GM small - 5 X 4.75 (5 X 121) GM large - 5 X 5 (5 X 127)
These are the bolt patterns used for years until recently. Now other patterns have been added additionally.

I know this is an old thread, but for those searching for answers later, my '72 Gran Torino wagon has a 5x4.25 bolt pattern. I bought 5x4.5 bolt pattern wheels and they didn't go on.
5x4.25 is apparently also a common Mopar pattern.

Ford intermediates of the 70's have 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern, the full-size cars(Lincoln Continental-the Big T-birds-Mercury Marquis) have 5 on 5" bolt pattern. A 5 on 4.25" bolt pattern were on later model Fords/Lincolns-I believe a Lincoln Mark VIII had the 5 on 4.25"bolt pattern. Unless someone has done something funky to your '72, it should be 5 on 4.5"

1972 Torinos were 5 x 4.5" (same as Mopar) like Todd says. Torion Police cars were 5 x 5" for 1973 and newer.
Wheels were generally hub centric except for Magnum 500's which are lug centric. I am not sure the hub size off the top of my head, but I know several members have used late model Ford wheels. Check the Centric website and look up the rotors. It will show the specs on the hub bore size.

So did I measure incorrectly? I went from hole center to hole center across the pattern (in the same way one torques down 5-lug wheels) and got 4.25. I just put new front rotors on, listed as fitting a 1972 Gran Torino, and the wheels fit.
I bought Ford steel wheels from the junkyard. I measured before I put the tires on, and one measured 5 inches at the hole centers, so I swapped it at the junkyard. But those are the ones that didn't fit. So I had the tires remounted on the non-Ford steel wheels that came with the car (except I had to find another Mopar steel wheel because mine had three 15-inch Mopar wheels and one 14-inch Ford wheel when I got it).

you have to add a smidge when measuring a 5 lug,
cheating from the outside of one stud to the center factors in the smudge

Also, 60s Ford 5x4.5 had a smaller hub bore, and those wheels won't fit newer cars with the 78mm hubs.
