Will sport mirrors off a 72 fit on a 71? Any differences?

Entirely different. Base angle and height are different.

Yep, after looking at pics side by side I can see what you mean. I think the 72's look better, I wonder how they would fit?

will not fit. very different in design

Guys the mirrors on the 72 have the same mounting base to body contour as the earlier model stuff.
I found the same mirror on our cars all the way back into the 60s cars in the junkyard.
My 76 has a passenger side chrome off a 65 Galaxie, same as the stock 76 one and the same as the one I had on one of the other 72s. Spent a whole day in the old car yard finding mine.
 
The sports maybe different style but the base should mount.

for the sport mirror, the head is the same but the base is different.

You may be able to mount it, but it may sit funny/cockeyed. The reason the chrome manual rectangles could be used on so many different cars is that the entire mirror head can be turned and adjusted in relation to the base.

True, I was just saying yes it will fit. But yeah not sure how it will sit level wise.
Would be interested in seeing it.
