I am changing out my torqe converter and i am wondering if I need the transmission separator plate??? If so does anybody reccomend a peticular brand for a 72 gts? Trans's are kinda foreign so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes the separator plate is needed for spacing( converter to flywheel). It's possible to jam the converter into the flywheel if the plate isn't used. always check when bolting the trans to the engine, that the converter isn't forced to the flywheel. I usally grab a converter stud and make sure it moves in the flexplate stud hole.

The shield is also a pilot for the starter mount as well.
