I have a 79 thunderbird and am wondering if anyone knows if it is a 9 inch or not ?

If you wanna be sure look and see if the back side of the "pumpkin" has bolts or not.

Almost all mid-size Fords and Mercs 1972-1979 have the 9 inch. There are very few exceptions.

The Ford 9 inch axle is an outstanding axle.
