I am starting to repair my dash panel (not the pad) which has numerous cracks in it, some small and some not so small, most on the bottom edge but a few continuing up into the black middle area. I am looking for advice on what people have tried and what the outcomes were. I am thinking about plastic welding the back side as this looks like a pretty solid fix but not sure if this will close up the crack tight enough on the front side. Any input is greatly appreciated - dave

this is what i used on dash cracks since the dash plastic is made of ABS oatey black ABS pipe glue available at home depot, ace, and most any local hardware store! make sure it's abs only NOT general purpose for all pipe!

i'd suggest using masking tape across the front side of the crack to keep glue from getting where you don't want it, as it will soften and bond to the plastic, then work it in the crack from the back side, then clamp or hold the pieces together till it bonds i've used it to fill screw holes in my dash too

Thanks for the info, John, I think what I am going to do is try the plastic welding on a couple of spots on the lower part that doesn't show and use the Oatey on the higher spots. Does the Oateys have a fairly quick set up time?

yeah, but cure overnight... if you were to use a clamp on each side of the crack then use another to pull the two together vertically let set over night you should be good

I think thats what I will do, possibly use a clamp on it with some wax paper to hold it flat and crossways clamp to hold together, I'll give that a try - thanks

my favorite ABS repair stuff! I use that for my dash, as well as any abs part for any of the bikes I work on. GREAT STUFF!!!

i was thinking about covering the dashpad itself with carbon fiber, it wont be flexible like the original pad, but itll cover up any cracks and look cool aa hell. Youll have to find someone good at it so they can get all the contours right and polish everything shiny..
