I bought a 1974 Gran Torino from it's original owner back in 2001.  Originally was forest green with a cream vinyl top, repainted in flat black.

351W with intake/carb/headers, C6 trans, 2.75 rear gears.

The car has been in storage for the past 12 years, but I've just built a new shop for it to live in, so it's time to get back to wrenching.

Car needs a bit of TLC, but she was a head-turner when she went into storage, so hopefully not too much needed for her to be streetable again.

That's a fairly old photo before it went away.  I've only got one newer from a few years back when I moved it from one storage site to another, shows a bit more of the current condition of neglect.

Welcome Dubz!  Shouldn't take much, she still looks good!

Putting some thought into my hopeful summer projects.  Other than a decent tune up this is what I'm hoping to accomplish.

Tires: the tires on the car old, and I mean really old.  They are F70-14's in the front and F50-15's in the rear.  Tires were in poor shape when it went into storage.  Surprisingly they are still holding air, but I don't trust them on the road.

I'm currently in a toss up between two options.  One is to just get new rubber for the current wheels (very limited selection here in Canada it seems) to stick with a more classic look. The other lingering thought is jumping into a 17" or 18" rim which have dozens of tire options, but it seems like a big risk if i'm not a fan of the end result.

Suspension  - coils: I've skimmed through the majority of the coil spring thread, and I think I'll be giving the Moog CVPI springs a shot in the front.

For the rear, I'm not sure which of the options would be a good pairing with those front CVPI springs?  From the looks of things I've got a pile of options.

Moog 8307
Moog CC807
Moog CC803
Moog 8539
Moog 8391
Moog 8531

I don't mind if the rear sits a bit higher than it currently does, but I don't want a huge amount of rake either.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Suspension - shocks: Shock wise it looks like the KYB gas-a-just are a pretty cheap upgrade so I'll probably give those a try as well all around.  Back before I put the car away, the Rancho RS-9117 or RS-9115 were what I was looking into.  Anyone have experience with both to weigh in?

Hello and Welcome. Nice Gran Torino. I went with the CVPI up front and the MOOG CC 803 in the rear. I added a rear sway bar. The car is running KYB Excel-G shocks. That combination gives a nice almost level ride height. There is a picture of it on the shock/spring thread. I used smaller tires up front to get the slight rake you see in the picture.
I'm in Florida and the roads are basically flat and smooth. However when I do turn a corner or change lanes a little quicker than usual, I have very little body roll.

took me a while searching, but I found this side profile of your car and I can get behind that look! Very nice.

That pic and others are all in the stance photo thread. Check it out to give you some idea of different spring combinations.

Yup. Thats mine. Right now it has no engine or exhaust. You can see and read about it in '76 Gran Torino fun.

I have used both the 8531 and 8307s in my 72 and they pretty much sit at stock height on a '72.  They both worked okay with the CV76PI springs.  I can't say how they will sit with a '74 to '76.  But if you like the stance of Steve's car, I'd just use the CC 803's he has.
