Hello forum. I am slowly starting restoration of my 72 GTS 351-CJ/4sp.
According to the Marti report, my car has a `conventional rear ax le`...open diff. I would like to change the diff to a trak-lok or similar. My question is...what spline is the diff?

I would like to go with a 3.50 trak lok......any ideas on where to get one?. I am on a budget!Clap

normally it's a 28 spline but best to pull 1 axle and count before you buy Wink

on a budget, upgrade your existing 3rd member with a new or used Trac-Loc center section, new gear set and overhaul kit

There are 2 more ring and pinion sets below, you will have to ask the person who is selling them if they are for the traction lock/limited slip differentials.

Definitely pull the axle to check the spline count. If you can rebuild the rear end yourself you will save a lot of money just buying a kit listed above. Even if you can't rebuild the rear end, maybe there is someone local that can do it?

Summit and Speedway have fully assembled third members but they are way pricier and would cost a lot to ship overseas. But a Currie or Moser rear end has upgrades over a stock Ford rear.

This next person below has a 9" for sale but he does not know what gear ratio it is, or if it is a trac loc. But the price is good.

Gear sets are the same trac-loc/no trac-loc.
Aftermarket lockers are probably a better deal than rebuilding a 40+ year old unit.
Shipping will probably be a killer.

i have a PowerTrax Loc-Right unit in my 2011 Crown Vic 8.8 ...

(retrofit Detroit locker style differential)

i definitely don't recommend it for a daily driver type vehicle and would not do it again.

it's coming out and a Trac-Loc out of a Mustang is going in (clutch pack limited slip style differential)

Powertrax and any Detroit lockers are BRUTAL, especially in snow...
Was thinking modern replacements as opposed to re-re-rebuilding 40+ year old stuff when the supply line for parts is 1800 miles long.

This is the same set up I have in my car . 351 CJ with a 4 speed manual shift ,  The original owner knew just what he wanted , and I do like the Bench seat. but he ordered it with the 3.50 open rear end , I never drive this car in the rain or snow  ,  I'm thinking Speed way  3X2 gears only,  3.50 ,  28 spline is the way to go , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnuGDOfhdd4" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnuGDOfhdd4

anyone on here running a truetrac setup?  It's what I've been eyeing for when I get to the stage of getting an LSD, seems like a good deal that you don't need clutch rebuilds or dealing with the issues of a standard detroit locker.

For over the pond, it might be a good option so you aren't needing extras in a few years?
