Does anyone know what rear axle the 1979 Ford Ranchero with 351 engine came with? 9in big bearing? 28 or 31 spline? track-lok or open? wheel bolt pattern? is it a direct fit into a 1972 Ford Gran Torino? Thanks

door tag code will tell you,...... if nobody's changed anything over the years, direct fit ...yes, probably 28 spline, big bearing ...yes, bolt pattern should be 5 on 4 1/2"

Hi , have not seen y ou on Rancherous for awhile. I have been more on 460 sites lately. Off topic, I had someone tell me that I should run w/ NKG plugs ,wr5 2438. what do you use in yours, as mine is pretty much a clone to yours ! Also what gap do you go with ? Heard a variety of these ! oem says .50-60, this seems pretty big. I got the above plugs and checked gap, its preset gap is more like .35-40 ? Again thank you for your advice, which I trust more than any site ! |

Yes, I run NGK WR5's, I found them to have the least resistance among the resistor type plugs I tested(Champion RF11YC and Autolite 45's), the less resistance the more spark energy gets to the plug gap. I also found BIG differences in resistance #'s between different distributor caps and rotors, I went with the lowest values across the board when I finalized my ignition system. I set my gaps to .045" and I indexed the plugs to each cylinder(Ok, I was bored that day). I do know the TFI coil/HEI module combo will jump at least a 1/2" of plug gap and/or straighten the kinkiest of hair with a quickness if not careful. Not saying my current ignition setup is any better than anything else out there, it just works great for me and has been rock-solid reliable. Hope this helps.
