I bought this almost a month ago. Just having title issues so I can not get it across the border into Canada. 

It is a 1973 Gran Torino wagon. Has a 400 and a C6, 9" rear with 2:70 rear gears. 

Future mods are a Lincoln Town car frame with air ride, 7.3L godzilla swap with a 10r80 or 10r140 trans. Not sure which one.

and swap out those rear end gear. I have a 78 Ranchero with 2.50 gears. Slower then molasses in January.

You might also think of other possible swaps too. The later transmissions have really low 1st gears. The 6R80 has a 4.17:1 1st gear, and that one is fairly sorted out, while the ten speeds have a lot of bad reviews still. Those need more time for development.

The 6R80 can handle a lot of towing, and there is a controller for it($1300). Those come in two versions, the 5.0 can fit SBF's, and the other one fits the late V6's. That one has what looks like a round bell housing pattern, and it fit behind the turbo 3.5's and 2.7's etc. Any of those as a package can work with the matching PCM, and they should fit in the engine bay.

Those are great for an existing engine and trans you are happy with. The new 7.3 crate engine sounds really good, but I would not be thrilled by the prices and the typical OHV fuel economy of a big block.

IMO the 400 is Ford's unpolished gem, just basic updates (compression and cam)and it's an efficient torque monster in a relatively compact package. while there's nothing wrong with the factory iron castings for intended use, swapping to alloy heads & intake takes the power to weight ratio to crazy town

well she's all yours now ... either more work than you bargained for, or a driver you can work on the little things for a flip at some point. there's a Love Wagons crowd that will probably be happy to fill the $ gap in your current balance if/when you decide to part ways
