Hello from NH, I have a 72 very rusty gran torino, so I found a 73 gran torino in way better shape so I'm putting the 72 nose on the 73. Need some information on how much to cut off the 73 front frame to weld the 72 bumper brackets on if anyone could help. Thanks Mike

Welcome…I’ve just had it done a month or so ago…there’s some detailed pics on my build thread (73 GTS Restomod) and and 1972.5 thread is pretty good too… There’s no right or wrong way as far as cutting the horns and attaching the new ones as long as the radiator core support holes are lined up and the bumper brackets squared up    |

Frame is upside down at present so excuse the photos…they weren’t that easy to take of the top      The 72 horns have been slid inside the frame slightly…this is just one of many ways of doing it…critical measurement is lining up the radiator core support bushing holes and then the cut is however you want to… |

Those are nice pictures, and as you said, the real key is to line up the two radiator support bushing holes of the two frames. I was possibly the first here to swap a 72 front end onto a later car, and I don't recall having any trouble doing it. I had mine done in 1988 with a welder friend's help. I took my 73 Ranchero to his house with the 72 parts with me. We took our time and made the frame cuts carefully, lined up the frame horns so the bumper brackets were the proper distance from the radiator support holes. My only problem then was a mistake made by tying the support standing up straight using some welding wire to hold it in place. My friend grabbed some extra wire and used it to tie it at the top, the ends loosely sticking out. I didn't see one end and put my hand down onto it, it jabbed my palm fairly deep, boy that hurt for a long time. So don't use stiff wire of any kind like a rope or zip tie, those loose ends are dangerous.
