My console lid is dried out and although no major spots are missing it is very rough in spots.  In researching this on here I believe it was Sabatona who used vinyl spackling to fill in these areas.  Any thoughts on this or other products that might work?  thanks - Dave

That describes mine well also. I'm not sure if the best answer is to restore the surface in some way, or to recover the whole thing. It is very common in later cars to buy a leather piece made to fit the cover, and stitch it on securely. I'm hoping a shop a friend used to reupholster his seats will be wise enough to decide for me, and do it along with seats I need recovered.

i've repaired a couple consoles and a dash using SEM panelbond epoxy to fill in missing chunks then sanded to shape, then a light coat of primer as a sealer, then used a spray can of SEM chip gard , lightly dusting it on from 2" away ( 2 to 3 light coats drying between coats!) to make the textured grain look, then sprayed it with urethane base coat mixed in with a urethane pre flattened clear coat... mixing the 2 together making a single stage sprayable paint in the correct interior colorWink
on the dash which looked like it fell from a moving vehicle on the freeway!!!... after that process the customer couldn't believe it was his old damaged dash, he was so impressed he said he was going to cancel the new one he had on back order!

Main issue is you need a very flexible product. IN my case at least, I still use my console armrest for getting in and out of the GTS at times.

SEM makes a good selection of product, from my past personal use of their products in the Autobody trade.
With the nature of the material on the console lid, I'd image there has to be a product that can re-coat the lid and remain flexible.

I’d agree, a fresh wrap in a piece of leather would do the trick.

Most late model console arm rests are wrapped in some way, and the bottom edge is rounded more than older cars like these. The foam used is formed with a fairly sharp bottom edge. I only have my one console to work with. So when I get that far, I hope I will have a good connection with an upholstery shop that I have been told to deal with.
