So I am playing with my wagon and the rear window does not roll up or down. The motor is moving because I can hear it but none of the gears are working or the motor is broken in the head.

Is the rear regulator spring assisted like in the 80's or 90's vehicles or all motor only? or do just pull the motor out by the 3 bolts? I want to avoid getting my fingers chopped off

I took the motor out and from what I can see, there is 3 plastic or nylon pieces ground up in with the grease. So can I get a rebuild kit for this?

The regulator moves smooth with no issues so it must be an age issue with parts.

How hard was it to get the motor/gearbox out of there? Mine is the same way, so I can only open the tailgate sideways instead of down because I can't roll down the window. I can hear the motor run. I assume the nylon gears disintegrated. Then the other question is how hard it is to put the motor back in after you're done with it. You can get a whole new motor/gearbox assembly on Rock Auto, for both seven-tooth and nine-tooth drive gear.

It was easy to get out. Took a few min and that was all.

I noticed that every kit or motor on ebay is a Cardone 9 tooth drive and I have a 7.

Rock Auto shows an ACI 83138 for $57.79 right now, shown with 7-tooth gear.

One tip: when checking Rock Auto for a part, always look under Torino instead of Gran Torino. For some reason, lots of parts are only labeled as Torino but they're the right parts.

That power window motor can easily be rebuilt. The issue you are having is because of worn out torque pins. They were made of plastic or nylon and they do eventually wear out. Very easy to replace and you have the motor a part already. Check out "Tony's Car Care" on Youtube and he shows you exactly how to do it. I found it very helpful when I replaced the pins on a friend's '77 Grand Marquis for the same problem you are having. Cost less than $30 and a couple of hours to do the job. Works great.

I think it also included the price for a 6 pack of beer too, lol!

I saw that. My motor works fine so I tried to find a gear rebuild for that. I can only find a 9 tooth gear. My thought is buy the 9 steel tooth kit and reuse my 7 tooth steel. I hope that works at a fraction of the cost.

Oh and I live in Canada so the price is more and also shipping. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

When I repaired mine (It was doing the same thing) I found the new plastic window motor gear plugs at Autozone under the Dorman section. I thnk I paid less that $10 and that did the trick. Just clean up everything really well and re-grease it and you should be good to go.

Oreilys has them too:

Good luck! Wink
