Hi
Does anyone know where I can find the breakdown of 72 Torinos built?
I'm looking for the option breakdown. Specifically, how many came with the 4 speed? I believe it was around 600.
Thanks

2091 GTS fastback according to Marti. I'd have to dig through my files to see how many GTS formals were made but I'd guess about half. Then there'd also be a handful or non GTS Torinos that had 4-speeds too. Even some base models got them.

See the Marti report info on this 4-speed GTS Fastback.

I know the 2091 number but I believe that means total cars that had the Q code and manual. Meaning total of formal roofs and fast backs. I have owned 2 of these over the years and I thought I remembered that Q codes sports with a stick were a big over 600 produced. Sure seemed that way when I was looking for a 4 speed car🤣

No.  The 2091 is how many 1972 GTS Sportsroofs with 4-speeds were produced.  Look below and read the stats.  They are specifically for the 1972 Gran Torino Sport 2-door Sportsroof only.

There were 12,844 Q-Code GTS fastbacks made.  Of those, 10,753 had autos and 2091 had manuals.

I also have a report which shows that:

  • 57 Base model 2-door Torinos had 4-speeds.
  • 40 1973 Montego MX's had 4-speeds
  • 742 1972 Ranchero GTs had 4-speeds (this one is hard to read, it might be 762?)
I don't have the numbers for a 1972 GTS formal roof, or a 1972 Gran Torino (non-sport) with 4-speeds.

I should make up a chart breaking down the production numbers I have collected over the years.  Give me some time and I will post something to the forum over the winter.

Here is a link to a 1972 Gran Torino (non-Sport) 4 speed car that was for sale. It looks like 219 regular 1972 Gran Torinos with the 4 speed were built. I remember there being a Marti Report for a 4 speed 1972 GTS formal being posted here before, but it was years ago and I’d have to try to locate it.

283 1972 Ranchero 500s had the 4 speed:  https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-ford-ranchero-11/" rel="nofollow - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-ford-ranchero-11/

Thank you Griffin!  Now I just need to find the numbers for a GTS formal roof and we will have all the 1972 4-speed numbers.
