Hi folks, I thought I had bought good motor mounts (just the cheapo Pioneer brand off rockauto), but this forum made me aware that the mounts are not interchangeable side to side for a 351W. I bought two of the same part number (# 602370), does anyone know which side the Pioneer brand bolts to and which part number below would be correct for the opposite side?

Many thanks! Smile

edit: looks like the image uploader is compressing the screenshot beyond recognition, the link to the motor mounts is https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1972,gran+torino,5.8l+351cid+v8,1129003,engine,motor+mount,5552" rel="nofollow - here

there are 2 basic part numbers, 2370 and 2371

you'll need 1 of each for a set of mounts

maybe the Westar listings are correct for orientation?

I wanted to give a follow up for future installers of these aftermarket motor mounts.

I ended up using Pioneer 2370 on the driver side (4 rivets) and Westar 2371 on the passenger side (3 rivets). Westar 2371 had 7.25" motor mount spacing and had to be ground open to fit the 7" motor mount spacing on the block.

This is the opposite of what the part numbers claim, but I don't think the motor mounts side to side matter that much, at least as long as the holes don't line up correctly enough to actually bolt the motor in. I'm sure if you had two 2370's you could make it work just fine.

The passenger side required quite a bit of modifying (cutting, grinding, eventually tying a ratchet strap to the frame to get it far enough into position) to make work.

From the facebook group, I've learned that these aftermarket motor mounts don't fit correctly on the passenger side crossmember -- the hole exiting the front of the passenger side frame sits about a half inch lower. I've heard that NAPA may carry a set of motor mounts that DO fit correctly, but all that my local NAPA had was upcharged rockauto Pioneer brand.

I think a set of old motor mounts is the way to go. These took a lot of patience with a dremel to fit correctly.

Motor mounts, passenger side (2371) on top:

Here's the passenger side motor mount after modifying with the elongated hole:

Just one hole on the frame side of the mount needs to be enlarged to make it fit (the passenger side motor mount facing the front of the car), you can see it here against the stock size hole:

With enough wrestling the motor is living in its new home!

Thank you for sharing this information and posting pics.  I am making this a sticky.

Do you think if you used to 2370s it would have required similar modifications?

doesn't sound 'right', should not need to pull with a ratchet strap to hit the bolt holes. your mounts may not last long with that kind of stress on them. still the same story though, basically they got everything crossed up from the bolt hole spacing to the block and the ear tab length to the frame holes if i read that right? i just had a flashback, the shorter ear tabs IIRC are for different applications, for unibody stamped sheet metal crossmember cars. earlier years prior to 1972

I bought two mounts in about 1980 from Auto Shack before their name changed, the two were identical. The boxes were marked differently. I went back and fortunately those were common stock items. They looked and found one correct mount. Checking other stores there were others that were in the wrong boxes. So it was a common problem back then. I wonder if aftermarket companies managed to use the wrong parts or specs at some point to produce these poor mounts.

I actually did have two 2370s, and they mounted similarly. The only reason I ended up using the 2371 is because another forum member posted a pic of his passenger side motor mount, and it ended up being the 2371 with 3 rivets. I experimented for a while, doing the same modifications on the 2370 would probably work just fine.

It doesn't sound right because these mounts are totally off! I agree, these mounts had to have been made for something else. Maybe later year Torinos had different bolt hole spacing on the crossmember. I'll let the forum know how long they end up lasting.

I ran into issues in the last few years with the available aftermarket mounts. I went back to my factory 1972 mounts as mine are drastically different. I wound up drilling 2 holes and drilling and tapping the lower mount base on my driver's mount, for 2 socket head cap screws in 3/8 UNF fine thread.

I did find an NOS mount as well, as a spare just in case.

Those 351W style mounts will work on 351C, 351W or 302 cars, Believe 4004 /351M cars as well?

Biggest issue is you need to do a lot of grinding/slotting of holes to get it to fit. Sad these mounts can not even be made correct anymore without a bunch of hackery.
