I recently bought a 68 GT 390 convertible with the large diecast arms in the top frame broken.  I got the car at a very low price, so I had the arms welded back together and 3D scanned.  They were machined on a 5-axis C&C mill out of billet 7050 aluminum and I am told they are 4 times stronger than the originals.

The same die cast arm is used in all Fairlane, Torino, and Montego converts from 1966 to 1971, but are available nowhere.  I’ve searched every site, and talked to every wreaking yard in the country, all broken.

This single item purchase cost me $4800 for one set of arms.  I have since had them priced by this company and a couple in China in 20, and 50 set quantities, and can get the cost down closer to $2800 per set.

I found some nylon bushings that worked, modified others, had to make a couple custom fasteners, and lots of white lithium grease, but it all works great now.  New canvas top is going on next week.

If we can get a group together to buy a quantity, then we can get the price down.  I can help with the parts.

Those arms lasted 50 years on most cars with no maintenance.  If they had been serviced like we do our engine oil and used white lithium grease at the bearings and joints every 10 years and replace the hydraulic cylinders every 20 years they probably would never have broken.
