Unfortunately the latch pillar seals are not yet reproduced for 72 onward and so we're stuck with those dried up, brittle, cracked pieces that we salvage.  So I thought I'd try this plastidip coating on a few trial pieces.  I hit them with four coats (about 1 full can) over a couple of days letting them dry between each coat and I've got to say that they look and feel brand new.  Filled in all the cracks, rounded off sharp edges and covered up bare metal.  Here's a link.  I got mine at Lowes in the paint section.  You might have to ask because they didn't even know they had it when I asked about it.  Paul~

I wound up doing the same thing for my car and was pleased with the way they came out.

That's a GREAT idea!!!  I have some red plastidip in stock, so it lookslike I will have to get some of this...I think I picked it up at the Home Depot in the paint section.

Hey, Paul-- did you dip it or brush it on?  Sounds like brushing would be the best bet...If so, foam brush or regular?

Picked up the spray-can version yesterday at the Home Depot!  Last can!  Thanks for the tip, Paul.  I had only seen the dipping cans until now, so the spray will be a good thing...

Yeah, we use this stuff at work to protect the backs of some parts inside of the dipping tanks, its really tough stuff.

I soaked mine in purple power to get all of the crud off of them and help to supple them up a bit.  Then I did four coats, one a day to build it up.  Paul~

I'm going to dip (spray) mine in a couple of weeks. If Auto Krafters can ever get my weatherstrip kit off backorder. Been waiting over a month now and they are still telling me they have no idea when it will come in!
On another (calmer) note, has anyone tried giving their front bumper rubber trim a shot with the plasti dip? Looks lto me like it would help with some of the dry cracked spots.

Wow, they came out great.  I tool a good look at my latch pillar seals and they are gone, gone, gone.  I  want to order a full rubber set eventually, but who knows if they will ever have them!

FYI,,this is about 5 or 6 coats with a spray can...wouldnt mind trying the dip method if they made a can big enough for them to fit, but I think it turned out very well this way..really covers up the small cracks nicely......

REALLY???

There's hope for my sedan after all then.

Between the wagon and what's left on the sedan, that spray stuff ought to get me high and dry and ready for carpet installation.

AWESOME! Thank you for bumping this thread up so I'd see it!!!

This is a great idea!   Thanks for the tip.   Problem is mine completely broke apart and its missing pieces now.   Since mine is a desert car, the rubber is so brittle due to the heat.  I'll have to get some salvage pieces and try this tip.
Thanks.
