Not too hard, more fun and better gas mileage. Modern Driveline can hook you up with everything from flywheel to trans, you need to find pedals, and can use a simple cable system from a '96 Mustang Cobra (No need for Z bar and linkage). He also has the cable kit. Easy.

on fordmuscle.com they were doing a t-5 swap in a 73, and the shifter poked throught the same hole the factory shifter did, so i would say yes, but you will need a custom shifter handle to reach it.
