Mine are not fat but do fill the rear wheel well nicley 255/70 R15's on the rear using mag 500 15x7 rims. It is a tall tire.

check the tire size thread.
you'll see a ton of pictures of different sizes.

295/50/15 is the fattest tire that fits on a 15x8 rim and is available.
It is a little short.
275/60 is a great size and also readily available and nice size for our cars.

FWIW, I think 315/xx/xx will fit without mods to the car, (if you have the right width rim).

Thanks everyone!!! Psquare, 315 IS obnoxious! Hahahahaha, would love to have that tire. And 76 Cougar, your pic is kinda dark, but no worries, I get the gist. Nice cars, dooods! Mine will be purty some day, hehe. Mechanical first. Update: They are just NOW starting to put my motor back together, gaaaa, been waiting like forever, man. Bored .30 over just because of the excessive wear from the high mileage, so that's a good thing, right? What will that bring my motor up to? About 463-4? SWEEET. Hehe, can't wait to burn rubber. I have a tall tire on the back now, looks good from a side view, and raised white letters. I was looking at the Hoosier 295 or 275, and I was wondering how these tires are for cornering? Would I be better off with a BF Goodrich? Seems they have a better, stronger sidewall.  If the tire is not tall enough, I reckon I can drop the rear an inch ore two, eh? Better handling...

I was referring to their handling and traction ability. All of those white letter tires (BFG, The infamous Pep Boys Futura, Cooper, Even the once hallowed Goodyear Eagle ST) are more for appearance than handling these days. Don't get me wrong, they work and are fine for 90% of driving.. I have Coopers on my 77 Cougar on OEM rims.. but even the lower range Nitto NT450 was a much more solid tire when I tried them on the car.  I wish Nitto, or anyone, would do a decent performance tire with an actual white letter.

Well, all I really need is the 90%. I'm not going to be racing too much. All that's around my neighborhood are kids in their tuners, so I expect to be eating them up. Here comes the old man, hehe. Going to check out that thread...

Anyone run Coker radials?  Found some very interesting sizes for them in my Summit catalog.  Looked like drag radial sizes, but doesnt say "drag radials".

How about rim offset for those tires? I have some ugly-a** Keystones that some moron painted black on there at the moment, and the offset won't allow for those; even a 275. as a matter of fact, the 255/R70 15s look as if the car bottomed out, the tires would just scrape. What's the offset on your rims, 76 Cougar?

As I remember (sold the car) it was 4.5 all around. 14x7 rims on front 15x8 on the back.
