Here is September 2008 with my Platoon of Truck Drivers and Fuelers before we deployed.
I am on the far right, My partner(PLT Leader/LT) is on the far left.
FANTASTIC group of guys and gals... SOLDIERS all of them.
The kid behind the flag in the front row is my Soldier who lost his right foot below the knee. 5 others were Purple Heart Recipients during our deployment.
My LT on the left was in Command of a Company this past year in Iraq.
She was medevac'd when her base was bombed and she was blown up.
You heard about it on the news, the worse rocket attack in many years and killed 6 Soldiers.
They were her Soldiers.
I LOVE MY GUYS!!!
Headed north from Kuwait to Iraq, I was in charge of this whole plane load of Soldiers.
Sometimes it feels like herding cats! lol
In Kuwait, on our Unit Concrete Barrier.

GOTTA get pumped up before you go on mission!!

In the Army for over 20 years running 5 days a week and THIS was my first 5k race... in IRAQ! lol

GOTTA LOVE CAV!!!
Cowboy Hats and Spurs!!

Not a great smile but this was my Bronze Star ceremony.

How's that Jeff?
Does that show who I am?
OH WAIT... that was all the serious stuff!
Now here I am with Andy after we cut up the white 73 GTS...

I travel quite extensively to producer locations, both out in the field and to corporate offices. Some of the areas are great, some require that I carry firearms. I absolutely love my job!

Typical compressor station

Typical well site

Typical Appalachian well access roads. This is why I build Jeep Cherokees for my business use!

Typical Appalachian wells

BTW, I am not in these pictures but will post some in the members pictures section. I would never trade jobs with anyone, as the folks I deal with are great, the job is a constant challenge, and I drive through some of God's most beautiful country.

Well, the guns and Jeeps are mine, but the quads are supplied. It is great except when the locals decide that they don't want you poking around certain areas and decide to confront you with assault rifles or you look down on your chest and see the tiny moving red dots. Then it gets dicey.

You guys have pretty interesting jobs. I'll counter that My technical title at work is "warehouse manager", for a small three store chain of pharmacies (no I can't get you drugs, only OTCs and seasonal items here, ha). Unofficlally it's jack of all trades, from setting up computers, selecting items for purchase, designing planograms, setting retails, etc etc etc..

I am either seen with a clipboard taking inventories, a two wheeler, or in front of the computer with Excel open.

here is what i do for a living,   right now its two jobs till spring,  then just one for the rest of spring, summer and fall.  with a little side job for most of the summer.

my main job is with a tree and landscape company.  i work in the tree department mostly but do a little be bit of everything.   we do everything from basic trimming to hazard tree removal.    i mostly do ground work, some climbing and run the bucket truck from time to time.  our bucket truck is a 65 food altec boom truck on a 1999 international. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=84684857863&set=a.28064522863.41137.699842863&type=1" rel="nofollow">

one of our clean up trucks an international  with a prentice loader mounted to it.

this is our smaller stump grinder its a rayco,  way under powered for what we do with it but it gets the job done when we cant get the bigger one in to the job, like in tight back yards
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=84686147863&set=a.28064522863.41137.699842863&type=1" rel="nofollow">

some of the trees are just to big to move by hand, that chunk or wood is about 5 feet tall.

heres a typical pine tree removal i did,   im about 45feet in the air befor cutting the top out of the tree

after cutting the top down

my winter job is at the local ski resort, http://www.bristolmountain.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.bristolmountain.com/   if you are ever in western ny in winter and want to try skiing or snow boarding  its a great place to give it a go.  this year has been a challenging winter but has been a good season none the less.   we have had close to 100 ski-able days so far.   my job is lift attendent,  basicly i have to make sure everyone loads and unloads the chair lift safely,  believe me it can get crazy.   no stopping for cold or snow here, on an average year its not uncommon to see temps starting the day out at -10 and only warming up to 10.  but i love my job i get to see some of the most amazing sun rises at the mountain, and 99% of the customers are great.

heres me home away from home.   the morningstar chair.   its a quad chair (4 person)  it typically runs at 415-420 feet per minnute.   if that doesn't sound all that fast try garbing the 400LB chair as it comes around to slow it for the customers.   if your not paying attention it will knock your on your a** fast

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150587786757864&set=a.28064522863.41137.699842863&type=3" rel="nofollow">

heres a pic of the groomers that run around the mountain late at night getting everything ready for the next day.   they are bombardier snow cats,  we have a fleet of 6.

the average morning looks like this

and on the average year i typically spend most of the time looking like  im part snow man.

Yeah Kevin, it has its great moments. Sometimes the travel gets me down a bit, but I work for such a great company and wonderful people, I shake it off pretty quickly and thank God. One of the reasons I like where I travel is getting to be up north. Love the ice, snow, geography and people there. You get to enjoy it every day

As for GTW and our other members in our armed forces, thank you all for giving us the lives we have, the security we enjoy, and the sacrifices you make. It surely cannot be easy in these times. God bless you all.

Privateer or company man?
Up for the occasional side road parts pick up and delivery at the truck stops?
Hoods, bumpers, fenders, seats and other big parts to big to mail??
Always thought IF someone could pick something up along the way and deliver even a few weeks later would help the cause for us GTS.ORG guys.
I for one try to deliver/pick up what I can along my travels if it will save a member some cash and I get to meet cool GTS.ORG people along the way!

I have been meaning to post on this site for a while now, better late than never.I started to some time ago and figure while I'm deployed I will catch up. This is what I do for a living. I'm a CH47D/F test pilot in the Army stationed at Ft. Riley KS. This pic was taken in 2009 on the way to Ft. Lewis to drop this aircraft off at the reset facility located there. That's Mt. Rainier (sp) in the back round.

Always wanted to pilot a helicopter. Screwed my life up when I was young and never qualified for the armed services, though I would do anything for this country. Envy everyone in the military. Managed to get educated on my own. Many hurtles but still pulled it off. I am currently a mechanical engineer running a 122K sqf commercial building in downtown L.A. Pretty much a glorified maintenance man, though I make ok money. Great perks include health and doing whatever the hell I want (as well as working on cars when I should be working). Above all happy.

I'm amending my entry to this thread because I am a tow truck driver again. Specifically, this truck:

and yes, that is a 1971 Porsche 911T riding on a wheel lift wrecker with dollies...

I've actually been doing more roadside assistance type calls than anything else. Jump starts, tire changes, fuel deliveries, and a LOT of lockouts. People in Ohio seem to like to leave their keys on their front seat. I don't even UNLOCK the cars. I just snag the keys with a Big Easy and pull them through the opening in the door made by my little inflatable wedge. Why struggle to push a slippery Armor-All'd power door lock button or fight a lock knob or handle when I can just get the keys out and unlock it that way?

Gotta love the power and torque of a Cat 3406E, had one (475 hp) our '99 Freightliner FLD Classic w/ 13 spd that we used to haul our excavator to jobs. What kind of upgrades have you done to get to 575 hp in your '95? Sadly, we had to sell the FLD and lowboy along with a Hyundai 740-7 wheel loader not long after the economy took a dump in '08. BTW, you have a wicked and diverse selection of vehicles in your collection . Todd

cool! i took 5 1/2 years of mechanical drafting and 1 1/2 years of architectual drafting in school, back in the day when we had to use triangles and a compass and dividers, no fancy computers to draw it for you back then LOL  most people thought it was boring, but i enjoyed it, paid off later, i can sketch out a rough blueprint for a part and take it to the machine shop, and get the part back perfectThumbs Up

I thought that first one was a picture as well. Finally saw the flag and realized it was a drawing. Superb.

I was very much into mechanical drawing from the time I was a kid and all through high school. Wanted to be an architect more than anything, but that dream was smashed.

Fantastic work!

I currently am an electrostatic painter for a company that manufactures push reel mowers.

http://s30.photobucket.com/user/levirden1972/media/ijp_zpslgi2pwhl.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

I paint them as they roll through my paint booth.

http://s30.photobucket.com/user/levirden1972/media/20150309_135105_zpsu3dm7ata.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

It's a messy job working with 50 year old equipment sometimes...

http://s30.photobucket.com/user/levirden1972/media/20150227_124240_zpso8qjyxkw.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

Then there are the days you don't realize your mask leaks until your nose is all green.

http://s30.photobucket.com/user/levirden1972/media/20150227_123308_zpspsgq8iay.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">

It's a good job, great hours, and some decent perks like access to free sheet metal scraps, media blasting equipment, welders, etc. The plant supervisor is customizing a 58 Chevy Truck and is pretty cool about letting us use equipment on our time for our projects. As soon as I score some spare control arms I'm going to run them through my booth. We have a really nice metallic silver gloss, and a nice gunmetal metallic I want to try on them. The paint is really durable after it is baked on, I think it will work real well.

I have been employed as a Corrections Officer and now a Corrections Sergeant for the State of NY. Been doing that for almost 24 years now....also, for the last year I was elected to a regional position to represent the Officers and Sergeants for our Union - official title is Central Region Vice President. Upside is, I don't have to work in the prison every day, the downside is, now I cover 7 facilities that are in upwards of 2 hours away on the road...not really a downside as I enjoy representing my members...

I am a NYC Firefighter. I retired 7 years ago. Not because I wanted. 9/11 health problems pushed me out. I also drove tractor trailers over the road moving over dimensional machines for 10 years. I have been driving cement mixers for 35 years, while in the FDNY. Worked nights in FH, days in mixer. Had to. NYC FF doesent pay very well. Especially in the beginning. Had to work 2-3 jobs during my career. Even so, it’s still the greatest job in the world.

Retirement is the goal for sure, I hope everyone can make it and appreciate some better quality time.

I should have quit years ago, I was trying to reach 30 years, but now it's not worth it. I'll be at 85% full retirement in six weeks, I hope to go before Christmas. Guess what I've done since 1990, this was last August;

I have collected a lot of parts for my projects, and I don't have the space to work or store anything really anymore. I need a much bigger garage and parking space, private enough to not worry about bothersome neighbors of course. So a new house is my big goal this Fall, if I get lucky I can move and be happy in the Winter.
