I have a '73 Montego with a 2bbl carb engine.  It is originally a FMX car.  However, I would like to have overdrive for interstate driving.  It is a 4 door car and I am now building the engine in it.

Has anyone put a AOD into a car like this?  What flywheel should I use?  Crossmember?  Driveshaft?  I have converted it to fuel injection and the throttle body is from a AOD car.  I know I can use the small block AOD transmissions, and I already have the 4R70W planetaries to give it the wide ratio gear set.  I do not know what case to use.  I have looked on the internet and all I found is a Mustang with a c-4 being swapped.  I have heard the FMX crossmember will work along with the driveshaft.  Before I assumed anything, I figured I would post here to the people that know more about this.

Thanks,
Chris

I did this to a 75 Ranchero sometime ago I used a C-4 driveshaft and flywheel for a C-4 as well. Gary

Hopefully, I can get set straight on this.  I was always under the impression that the AOD had a longer case than a C-4, and therefore used the shorter C-6 length driveshaft.  Accordingly, everything I've read says to use the rearmost holes in the frame to mount the crossmember when using an AOD.

Sorry to start any confusion...never really got crazy about small blocks and their associated trannies.  Worked on 'em, yes...drooled over 'em, um, no.LOL
