Buddy of mine (hopefully will become a new member here) bought the windshield out of the '73 I am parting. He and his friend that has a glass shop removed the glass last night with the coolest tool called an Extractor. Basically, it is a short-stroke sawzall with a 4 X 6 flat flexible blade attached to the end. The blade is like a large flexible putty knife. He sprayed soapy water around the inside of the windshield on the butyl and that blade CLEANLY cut right through the sealer. FAST. Let me tell you, there was a ton of that black sealant/goop/caulk around it (flush with the roof and pillars!) and it went right through it. No vibration, no issues, just fast as it could be. No stringy mess, no crap sling around or getting on anything. Then he took a knife and went around the perimeter of the sides and top fron the outside and out it came! I understand. Piano wire has always been my method, paired with healthy doses of Kroil. When I watched them do this last night with no mess other than some soapy water, I was impressed. The soap acts as a coolant, lubricant, and it eliminated the black goo from sticking to the tool. Keep us posted, Going to try this myself! My friend owns a junkyard so I'll have a place to practice first. Then I need to put one in my caddy. Very, very little. What was there was not all stringy and gooey. Good and firm. Extractor uses a different motor and everything. the only thing it uses from the saw is the body and the battery. The tool cost over 900 bucks. I've had a couple both are burnt out now sitting in pieces here in a drawer. Equalizer is another company that makes a similar tool for only 700 so thats what I have now and its better in every way than the extractor. Even if you're stuck using piano wire to pull one of these torino windows use a lot of water (it doesn't need to be soapy) to lube the cut. Thats what stops the "stringys" and it will keep it from sticking back to the car.

I had a mobile glass guy come out to my shop and remove the glass from a mini van i was working on and install it in the new rear hatch and I think I paid $60. $10 of that was for sealer?
