The past couple days I have been trying to get this 460 into my Ranchero and I keep running into the same god forsaken problem of THE OIL PAN IS HITTING THE ENGINE CROSS MEMBER!!! The first pan has a huge front sump on it and was clearly a front sump truck pan, the second one has a smaller sump and managed to get the engine just a hair away from seating on the cross member, but again, we are sitting on the pan. So is there any sort of help out there for me? Do I need a different pan? A big hammer? Or a burning rag hanging out of the gas tank as I push it out into the street? I am seriously at my wits end here!!!

Do you have the correct motor mounts?

I am using the Anchor motor mounts that I bought a while ago.  The pan I am most recently having a problem with has an approximately 8" deep sump that is approximately 12" from front to back.  I just recently picked up another pan that is also 8" deep but is approximately 10" from front to back.  As it is the motor is just a hair away from dropping right into place but instead it is sitting right on the cross member with the oil pan.  Such a pain...

Not trying to take advantage of your bad luck, but I have a couple sets of these I would sell. Anchors catalog is wrong, the do not have the correct ones.

Heres a correct set on ebay, not mine! Mine would be way cheaper.

If this other pan doesn't work then I may have to get the ones you have.  Please PM me with details.

I have what was the Ford MotorSport pan which I believe was built by Canton.

It fits with factory motor mounts, but I do have but 1/4" clearance or so on the passenger side. I will endeavor to get some photos this week.

Just put the motor in, did notice it was close but fit, but compared to the headers, the oil pan is the least of my worries...

What I have is essentially this:

https://www.cantonracingproducts.com/product/15-764/15-764----BBF-FRONT-SUMP-RR-T-PAN/

Of course I will need to measure mine and compare to the one on the webpage, but it is very similar just from a casual look.

After looking at the schematics for that canton pan I feel that that extra bit of clearance on the back side of the sump is just what I need.  Here's hoping tomorrow goes off without a hitch after I pull everything out again.

Scott,
Could you post pics of the installed oil pan, looking to go with the Canton 15-764 as well. Thank you, Todd

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires.

Torkair,
Not sure if you are running headers or not, but without the correct mounts your headaches may not be over Ouch when trying to fit them. IMO, If you can get the correct factory mounts, DO IT. They are getting harder to find in good shape and they will certainly make the 460's installation easier with adequate clearances. Good luck. Hope you get it figured out. Todd

Why doesn't someone start making mounts that puts the motor in stock location? I feel like there would be a nice demand for them. If I had a set I would measure them up and make some drawings for folks to to just make there own how ever they wanted. I used a bunch of tire rubber and washers. It's all sorts of sketchy. I wish I could get an OEM set.

Here are some pictures of the oil pan:

Driver Side:
Lots of clearance:

Passenger Side: less clearance

Overall not a problem unless the motor moves quite a bit. For my situation, as I have explained in the rear transmission mount thread, this car was 4x4'd a little by my brother, and as such the crossmember front lip was bent up. I bent it down with a bigger BFH, but maybe not enough, so that may be some of the clearance problem on the passenger side.

Overall, great pan, it does fit, and I believe it is a re-branded Canton as described previously. Strongly recommended.

Scott,
Thank you for the pics. That pan does fit pretty good, maybe a little work with angle grinder/cut-off wheel on the passenger side for more clearance if needed.
