Hi...
Does anyone know if the radiator core support is the same on 72 and 73? Changing the front end to 72 and the one removed is like new so don’t really want to throw it out or sell it if it’s the same...72 front clip is still on the boat on the way from the states so I can’t compare them Don’t want to waste money powdercoating it either if it’s not right for the new front end Thanks |

core supports between 1972 and 1973 should be a direct fit. the hood latch assy's are different, and the lower fender braces that bolt between the core support and fenders might be a little different

Ditto, they swap. I have a 72 front end on my old 73. The front frame horns are the only big unique parts. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I think changing the hood latch of the 72 hood may be possible, to maintain the 73+ hood release cable. I think a 90's Crown Vic latch may be possible to make work, the hood piece bolts onto the hood with two bolts. If that will go on without trouble, then lining up the latch part on the radiator support will be easy enough.

i tried swapping a 73 latch and hood onto my 72, it didn't work. i had limited time so i just swapped it back & went on my way. the 72 latch should work with the core support and the 72 hood

Was it the whole 73 hood or just the strike...think he’s planning on cutting the strike and surrounding area from the 73 and welding it into the 72...what problems did you encounter?

core support should be the same, you'll need the 73 latch and bracket, and graft in the 73 striker area for the hood.
i just sent chuck a latch and bracket... he's doing the same ![]() |

I guess I'll let you know next year if the late Crown Vic hood latch is an easy enough project. Those are a compact rectangular part that goes into a simple rectangular hole, with two bolts. That's why the idea came to me, I own a 95 CV now that I've had since 1999. I haven't removed that part(one minute job) to confirm the size of the hole in the hood(which is aluminum BTW). I expect it's a simple hole about 2x4" that can be created in any old hood. Getting the latch parts from the radiator support and making them mount onto the 70's cars should be the hard part.
