Just wondering whether any one has had their dizzy re curved post motor re-build and new cam. Will I get much more power out of the 351w by doing this. At the moment it is pinging around 3500rpm after hard accereration

are you sure you have the vacuum hooked up the same way it was originally?
 
single or dual advance distributor?
 
here's a method for using manifold vacuum,
 
here's recurve instructions for stock Ford dizzies, don't miss page 2
 
could also be that the mechanism is sticking at full advance
