Really nice car! I like the front-end style.
Did they make this style of Torino only for a limited time?

It's a 1972 Mercury Montego GT, the Mercury version of the 72 Gran Torino Sport. I don't know the details of all the Mercury trim levels, the MX is the one I recall hearing of the most. The Torino for 1972 up was a bottom trim level of the main model, the Gran Torino. 99+% of all 72-74's were Gran Torinos, the Torino was an ugly duckling version of the Gran Torino. Ford finally dropped the base Torino trim level.

The June 2022 Car of the Month is long time member "Big Bird's " (Randy's) 1979 Ford Thunderbird This is our first Thunderbird to receive the Ride of the Month recognition, and is one of the coolest' T-Birds around. Randy's T-Bird which he dubs his "White Trash" Thunderbird has a cool 80's street machine vibe. Randy's Thunderbird is a less common base model equipped with a 302 V8, FMX, A/C and a flight bench interior. He later upgraded it to bucket seats. Living up to the 80's vibe the car has installed aluminum slot wheels with staggered tires and with the proper lifted rear stance. Randy is one of our most knowledgeable members and has tons of hands on experience with the 1972-79 Intermediate Fords. His project thread hasn't been updated in a while, but maybe this will inspire him to do so. Congratulations Randy! Check out Randy's project thread here: Here are some pics of his T-Bird: Edited by 72FordGTS - 02-June-2022 at 3:11AM |

Yeah, screwed up an axle bearing in the rear, then spent the past few years getting sick/recovering, getting sick/recovering, etc...
Time flies when you're NOT having fun...

The July 2022 Car of the Month is Ron Earp's 1972 Gran Torino Sport restomod. Ron and his daughter built one of the coolest Resto Mod 1972 GTS's in existence. His Grabber Blue 1972 GTS was a 351C powered automatic car, that was converted to a Aluminum headed stroker Big Block with a top-loader 4-speed. He conducted a frame off restoration which included upgrades to the suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes so that the car could compete and autocross and road coarse events. The car had a super tough look with NASACAR-like black steel wheels with 295 tires at all four corners. Ron sold his car back around 2015 and the current whereabouts is unknown. Unfortunately his car has been utilized in numerous scam ads. For the newer members who didn't follow along with Ron's build, I'd suggest checking out his project thread. It's a great read on one of the coolest Torinos around. His project thread is here: Here are some pics of Ron's Torino: |
