I have mustang shorty headers I want to install in the spring. I've seen several threads in this and Regul8r's post with pictures (great pictures Carl!). I was wondering if anyone has tried using the mustang H-pipes with these headers as a basis for a dual exhaust? I was thinking the off-road pipe without catalytic converters would be nice...
Crown Vic tail pipes should work over the axle.
I also will need to change my motor mounts. They were mushy when I put the engine in, but the only ones available new at the time were made wrong, with bolt holes that didn't line up on the block.
(Stupid offshore parts)
Any thoughts?

are the motor mounts you are referring to the same as the ones used for '73 or '74 torino?

Yes. 72-79 all small blocks use the same mounts. 10 years ago, when I put the engine in, all the parts stores had were poorly made. The block side holes were spaced wrong, and if you tweaked them to fit, the frame side holes would not line up. After trying a second, and a third set form different stores, different brands, I used my original mounts. They are spongy and sag as the rubber in them is worn out.

i used prothane motor mounts part #6-503 on my car (they claim they only fit up to 73 torino.) the only difference i found between them and my oem 74 mounts were lower frame tabs  were about 1/8" inch closer together than my 74, so i unbolted the lower plate from the new mounts cut the tabs off, removed the lower plate from my oem mounts, trimmed the edges back where the oem rivets were , lined up the old plate with the new plate, then welded them together, bolted  the new modified plate back onto the new mount and put the new mounts in the car. they fit great and the upper bolt holes fit the block perfect by the way. they are available in red or black poly urethane.

That explains a lot. They must have made the frame a bit wider for 74. Since the later mount is just a wee bit wider, the parts stores show the later part as 1 size fits all. in a 72-73 there would just be a little slack in the fit.

randy, check page 2 of my build thread, that's what i came up with for shorty headers, on my car, if that may work for what you want to do.  it's in the starsky and hutch forum -- under johns 74 s&h clone build thread (i'm running a 351w)
