So I stumbled upon this a few nights ago and thought it was pretty neat that they finally have a functional CAI for carbureted engines. Looks legit, they say its dyno proven to increase up to 20 more HP and torque. What do you guys think?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pJZGTsNR0c&feature=youtube_gdata_player They only have kits for certain vehicles so far but I'm sure with all the different tops, bends in tubes etc, it could work in a torino. |

That's pretty sweet! Was it a pretty simple concept to install/modify? Did you feel any noticable gains?

Easy to install. My car is a garage ornament, so I couldn't tell you about any gains. It DID reduce some detonation on hot days, however, vs an open element air cleaner.

Brakes, brakes brakes. That, and I hate the exhaust (too loud for my tastes), and the steering box leaks. This car has been an uphill struggle fighting me every step of the way since I bought it in 05. It's not even plated right now. I'm sending it out hopefully later this summer to get completed, patience has run out. The car is stashed in a garage at my parents house.

Eh, they are parked 6 months out of the year up here, so it's not THAT big of a deal, but, yeah.. 300 miles or so in 7 years.

It's kinda' ugly, no? But for gains I'd definitely consider it. I'm sure my underhood temps ain't pretty. And speaking of brakes, my front ones are new, but one of my brake lines is terribly close to the header. This car doesn't like to stop.

Zing. I like it, lol. I hate cowl hoods, and really don't like how cars run with open element air cleaners. I always liked the dual snorkely look with the 5.0 Mustangs and Camaros.. soo...

Hehe, point taken. To save money, I may wrap a piece of plastic around the sides of my air cleaner and leave the top open. Maybe I won't get as much heat. As for my brake line, I think I will shield it in some way and see if that helps.

I like it - actually reminds me of the early Stock car (NASCAR) air cleaners back when racing was actually cool.
Cowl hoods belong on the cars that they were designed for (and equipped with) - Chevelles, Vettes, Camaros. All of early vintage, of course. Now days, even an Whatzit Plainmobile can have one. Heat is the enemy of braking systems. Shielding, larger vented rotors, multi-piston calipers, synthetic brake fluid, and cooling ducts are all great ways to beat the heat. |

Yea. Too much heat. Today I drove out to Sun Valley and it was over 100. On the freeway it stayed around 190 but wanted to go up to 210 on the side streets. These big motors don't like it when it's warm out. What sort of an upgrade/and are there kits that contain rotors and pads/calipers, etc do they offer for my car? I'd also like to know the same info for my power steering: Sag pump... parts, etc, what do I need to do a complete and best overhaul?

Valuable info, Psquare, wish I could've went to the next page. How dare they charge admission for Ford owners! I have half a mind to give them a piece of what's left of my mind... They weren't too clear about 75s, but what I'll do is pick up a bearing for the Thunderbird (I can always take it back), and measure my bolt circle, then see what I have to get to make this work. Sweet. You know my freaking fuel sending unit crapped out on me this morning, right after I put 5 gallons in it (that'll last me a couple of miles, hehe), so now I have to finger out what I need to fix THAT. I'm showing dead empty. Eventually I am going to relocate my fuel fill hose/cap higher or to the inside of the bed.

FordMuscle has so much useful information that it would probably be the only pay site I'd be willing to subscribe to. But if you check on a few other forums you can usually find the same info copied.

Oh, you didn't tell me about upgrades to my power steering, which, like yours, has play and leaks. I'd like to know what's the best upgrade as far as pumps. I suppose I just have the gearbox rebuilt, eh?
