I haven't been on in a while, work full time and school full, gran torino part time, girlfriend time and sleeping with what time is left.
I'll post some pictures in the next couple days but you cut straight to the chase. my 351 has a few detrimental issues,(valve going into the almost through the head and a block question to come.) What exactly is transferable between 400 and a 351C, trying to save money on parts but still build something fun. opinions are welcome as well.

I would start by reading through the old Dave Resch pages I have re-hosted here. Dave did a great job of getting all pertinent 351M/400 information on there, and will have some topical information on 351C parts that are the same. I would use this as a primer for your project planning. I think you will find it very worthwhile! Since the last authoring of that webpage in 2003, there has been more activity in the 351M/400 world as far as part availability and more options to overcome some of the shortfalls of the platform. They are good engines. I always liked my 400.

2V heads, cam, lifters, timing set, oil pump & pan, rocker arms & covers, harmonic balancer, rod bearings, front cover, distributor, oil dip tube if mounted in the front of the block, water pump, accessory brackets that are not affected by deck height, 2V exhaust manifolds, fuel pump & eccentric, common hardware except for possibly main cap bolts?
400 main bearings are larger (crank affected), rods are longer, wrist pins larger (piston affected), pushrods are longer, oil pump driveshaft longer, intake wider, 4x4/truck oil pan has threaded fitting oil dip tube...
grab one of these if you can find one

ya gotta watch out for the 351M/400 heads that have valve rotators in the valvespring retainers
even a stock 351C cam and most mild replacement cams will cause the retainers to crash the top of the valve guides, the retainers & springs need to be changed out and the clearance checked at max valve lift
