We have a '68 Sportroof that I have seriously considered doing a Talladega swap on. However, it is C's project car and she does not like the idea. One of our members is/was in the process of making a faux T mod on his 1968 or '69 here. Not sure if it got completed, but his fabrication skills were magnificent.

Aftermarket parts for the earlier cars seem to be greater, Galxie things fit and so do a lot of the mustang parts.......I was looking at uprated brakes and all the early ones had support but the fat crap that is the 73 didn't........

Mine will end up getting the custom bracket treatment with 6 pot wilwoods or something similar when funds allow

As far as the brake upgrades go, anything front suspension that fits a 65-up galaxie will fit a 72-76 torino. There is/was a  ton of stuff made for this chassis back in the day, as it was the basis of most of the NASCAR chassis until the "Car of tomorrow".
As far as other ideas, how about a Fairmont Futura/Mercury Zephyr Z7? Anything suspension/engine/etc that works on a fox mustang will fit, and nobody kept them.

I asked about brake upgraded and apparently the galaxie stuff doesn't fit the 73 Torino, that was my reply from Wilwood and SSBC

Wilwood will tell you that it doesn't because 73-76 Galaxie/LTD/Thunderbird has the "Large Ford" 5x5 bolt pattern for the wheels. What junkyards call the "knee assembly" (UCA, LCA, spindle, spring) will swap between 65-78 fullsize, 72-79 midsize, t-bird 67-79, etc. Some tie rods MAY be different, some ball joints MAY be different, but the entire assembly will swap. Spindles will swap thru those years, there are at least 5 front brake variants (drum brakes, Kelsey-Hayes discs, early fullsize discs, and big car 12', midsize 11" disc)
Lower control arms have at least 2 different spring pocket depths, and screw-in or press-in ball-joints, so if you do swap parts around, get both sides from the donor.

I ask about the Talladega because I found two of them. May possibly pick them up and put in storage. The both are clean one more so then the other. And they are real Talladega's

these are the pics the guy sent me and he says he has titles to both. I'm not sure what the font ends look like as he is 2.5 hrs away from me. I'm thinking I might go look on the 23rd

IF those are real Talladegas, the front ends will be both rare and expensive. There were only about 750 produced at the beginning of 1969 (jan and feb). There is a Talladega registry with all the VINs for the talladegas. Before you spend any serious money on a Talladega, make sure it is a Talladega, Frequently, people refer to all the sportsroof fastback Torinos as Talladegas but that is incorrect. The front end is unique to the 750 or so Talladegas, and the body has reshaped rockers with the pinchwelds folded over.
The pictures don't show enough to tell if they are really Talladegas, although you can see 1968 taillights on the second car.
A lot of the details that should be on a real Talladega aren't on the two cars in your pictures. Tail panel should be semi-gloss/satin black, pinstripes should be black, there should be an emblem with a big T on the doors by the door handles, and a fake gas cap with a T on it in the rear (black) panel under the trunk lock. Most of these details COULD have gone away with a repaint, but the odds of this guy having two out of 750 or so cars with all the identifying details missing and refinished like regular torinos...
Just be careful and do your due diligence.

I messaged Robert Day on FB to chime in here.
He runs the Torino/Montego Registry.
He is a wealth of knowledge on these cars.

the white one (with the rust free roof) looks fairly straight and solid! (in the pics) if the ranchero next to it is a 72? may be some fenders and other stuff for your car Wink

I do hope that at least one is a "real Talladega". He said they was but he might be wrong I will find out. Got to love small town junk yards. I'm hoping I can find a lot and work deals out on it all hahaha.

We have not even talked price. He said " come out, take a look and make me an offer". Scap prices here is $56 a ton so it works in my favor and I'm sure he hasn't had much interest in them.

First one is a Fairlane 500 Sportroof. The true Talladega front parts are really, really rare and expensive. There is more involved in converting one than just fenders, hood, front header, and a grill.

Did you notice the Aspen/Volarie T-top car in the background? Looks like he has a ton of rare older stuff. What a gold mine.

If the first is a fairlane 500 would that not make the second one a fairlane as well? The body lines and all are exactly the same.

Sportroofs in 1968 could be both Torino and Fairlane. In 1969, Sportroofs could be Torino, Fairlane, and Talladega. Always confusing, LOL.
